Yes, I Totally Have a Blog :)

The title is correct, I absolutely totally have a blog for this week. I am purposefully and intentionally (not out of last minute desperation) discussing the game Little Nightmares 2.

It may seem unorthodox to discuss the second game first, but technically it does predate the original game in the timeline. So, I want to discuss the absolute masterpiece that is Little Nightmares 2.

Starting off, you face the Hunter. As with all villains, he is monstrous in both size and design. Hooded head and shotgun in hand, he chases you and your newly found companion through the postapocalyptic television filled forest. You dodge buckshot after buckshot until you eventually find another shotgun and permanently end the Hunter’s reign of terror. From there you ride a floating door to the City.

Here, you meet an assortment of villains. From a teacher with a neck that extends like a nightmarish hand, a horde of literally feral wooden schoolchildren, a disturbing assortment of assorted hospital patients made of discarded parts, a doctor not unlike that of a giant larva, city citizens that are concerningly invested in their television watching, and, finally, a very thin man with a very long reach.

Making your way through the game, you will encounter any and all fears you may have as well as every conceivable form of discomfort, as is the Little Nightmare specialty. This game does such an amazing job at accomplishing anything and everything scary or creepy, and is the closest I’ve come to a horror game obsession since FNAF first dropped.

I highly encourage all of you to go and play this game if able, and if not to look up a lets play and watch someone else play it for the experience. It’s on my favorite games list for sure.

Speaking of, I might dedicate the remainder of my blog time this year to some of my favorite games. What do you guys think of the idea? Let me know.

Until next time!

Sincerely, someone who still screams when the mannequins move.

sharpening pencils

hello fellow blogspacers i am currently listening to my dear friend sharpen pencils one by one using a mechanical sharpener. one may think that i am getting more annoyed by the minute, but really, my mind is calm. even as he holds the mechanical pencil sharpener to my ear so I can hear each pencil be shrilly sharpened – i am as calm as can be.

actually, i usually work best when chaos is around me honestly. So, not even the terribly shrill sound of 100 pencils being sharpened could break my focus. for example, as i write this blog, the sharpening of pencils is just as soothing as the smooth jazz music mrs. sibley has playing in the lab today.

i actually love the sound of sharpening pencils.

Weekly Agenda

Haven’t seen you guys in a while! School has been so busy, and now even my weekends are overtaken by work and assignments. I have a lot of stuff to submit this week, especially before Friday, so I thought I would list them out and explain what they are.

♥———————–♥

Refutation Paragraph & Conclusion – I’m writing an essay on King Arthur and his historical references. I am arguing that King Arthur either was not real, or could have been multiple leaders mixed together into one story, with fantasy added for effect by romance writers of the time. I also have to finish up the essay completely by the end of this week, so a conclusion paragraph needs to be done too. My refutation paragraph is due Wednesday. (Or I guess today, if you’re reading this when it’s published.) Also, this is like 40% of my DC Eng. Comp. class grade, so I’m very stressed about it. Hoping it turns out well! To quote a friend of mine, ‘King Arthur is mid.’

17 Page Play – This assignment is killing my vibes, I’m not gonna lie, but I will be trying my best to produce a great play. Writers block is hitting me hard, and I can’t find ways to continue the play past 10 pages. But, I’m going to work on outlining what specifically I want to happen and maybe add in some extra dialogue to enrich the world I’m envisioning. This play is based on something scientific, so I chose Archaeology and focused on Pompeii. This is due Thursday. (So, tomorrow.)

LALALALALALA – If you’re wondering why it’s called this, it’s because I can’t think of a name right now. It’s a story that is supposed to be 2,000-3,000 words long, and has to contain the main character looking back on an event in their life. I’m basing the story on characters I already have, using bits and pieces of pre-written parts of the story (while editing them heavily because the pre-writing was old and not like my current writing style.) I’m a little over halfway done, but again, writer’s block continues to kick my butt. I am hoping I can be fully done with everything before the four-day weekend so I can relax and try to gain my creativity back.

Being a literary isn’t easy, that’s for sure, but I know it’s worth it. I will drag myself kicking and screaming into an A or a B to end this school year, if I have to.

But sometimes, sometimes in those moments of clarity, it’s clear that this is what I’m supposed to be doing. I hope to see you all again soon. ♥

jane brenda scully: a pet appreciation blog

hi, blog world! this week’s post is special because it celebrates one of the most important things in the world to me– my cat, jane! jane turned 3 on monday, and it’s hard to believe that my baby is growing so fast. if you know me at all, you may know that i am, at heart, an elderly cat woman. what better way to display that than to talk about my janie!

now, the first thing one must know about jane is that she goes by MANY names. jane, janie, smoochie, smooches, cat, the baby, meanie, and evil are just a few. however, her legal, God-given name is jane brenda scully. her name is extremely important and was crafted specifically for her. jane is her first name to honor jane austen, jane lane from daria, sweet jane by the velvet underground and jane from leonard cohen’s famous blue raincoat. brenda is after brenda walsh from 90210. she reminds me of her because they’re both beautiful and spoiled. her last name is scully, after dana scully, one of my favorite characters of all time. jane, like scully, is highly intelligent and skeptical.

enough about the name–let’s talk about sweet jane herself. she is easily the meanest cat i have ever met. her teeth are just as sharp as her wit, and she never hesitates to use either. however, she can be the most comforting creature on earth when she senses that something is wrong. her hobbies include knocking things over, biting ankles, and staring judgmentally. now, you may be wondering: emma, if the cat is so mean, why do you love her so much? that’s a fair question, but i don’t have a great answer for you. she is simply everything to me. and how could you not love that sweet face?!

World Building Project pt.9

Arguably one of the most influential figures to come from Birlev society is Worm the Barkless. Worm was found as a child in the forests of south Banya, battered, deformed, and alone with no heritage brands to identify their parents. they were taken in by an Ebony tribe, who found that despite only having one arm Worm was extremely mentally and magically gifted. As Worm grew and matured they climbed the ranks of Birlev hierarchy and would change it forever. Working their way from a serf, to a soldier, to a general, and through a logistical loop hole eventually became the ruler of Banya.

From there Worm wore every cultural taboo on their shoulder like medals of honor. For one, occupations were commonly decided by the amount of stripes on a Berliv. Many stripes meant they were fit for high society, kings, clergy, generals, and so on. the fewer stripes you had, the lower your rank would be, so Worm not having any stripes of their own essentially doomed them to obscurity. But of course, they were not content to have their life ruined by the whims of fate.

There was also a silver lining to worms natural born condition. Most would consider only having one arm to be a hinderance, but it gave Worm a surprising advantage. Worm could not afford to dedicate an arm to have a weapon permanently welded onto it, as was common tradition at the time. so they instead utilized grips, giving them an unparalleled adaptable edge against any traditionalist.

After the great war of 5782 and Worm crowned themselves as ruler of the known Birlev world they bore two children, Sashi, and Vasteler. Since Worm was found as an orphan, and had no heritage brand they made their own, But it was not the common lateral design of traditional heritage brands. instead it was a simple black maple leaf etched above their eye.

Worms final taboo they executed was arguably one they did not do willingly. As with most cultures there is a sacred bond between parent and child, and Birlev are no different in this aspect. So, for Birlev the act of a parent killing their child or vice versa borders on heresy. With this in mind when Worm and Vasteler took apposing sides in the 5811 rebellion they both knew one of them was going to commit a great sin. This came to a head when Worm publicly challenged Vasteler to a duel in order to end the conflict. Whether this was a genuine attempt to regain power over the rebelling forces or a ploy to smoothly pass down the crown to Vasteler, the outcome was the same. Vasteler slew Worm and usurped the throne.

Since then the federation Worm formed has stood the test of time for thousands of years. Whether they were good, bad, brutal, or gentle, their impact on the world, and surrounding worlds is undeniable.

Commentary

I think I spend a good amount of time on YouTube watching commentary videos. Seeing how big and diverse the commentary scene has gotten I think its about time to pay tribute to some of my favorite commentary YouTubers. They really helped shaped my views on a lot of things while also providing different or conflicting views on controversial topics.

Kurtis Conner

I’m pretty sure every one is familiar with this creator. He started off on vine and then progressed to YouTube (as did every other vine creator), and since had gained a massive following. I really enjoy watching his reviews of terrible movies and most recently, his commentary on toxic masculinity shown in media, more specifically, Tiktok. Through somewhat terrible puns and the occasional highly saturated memes he has managed to really spread the message of just being a good person.

Chad Chad

Chad Chad deserves more credit. Their content is sort of similar to Kurtis’ in the sense of very weird/funny memes and the occasional pun. I don’t think I’ve ever watched their videos and haven’t laughed. Their content is really centered around women’s issues. They call out many harmful ideas, usually generated from men, and sort of dismantles them through said jokes.

Shanspeare

This creator is so aesthetically pleasing. Their set up and voice just scratches the best parts of my brain. The topics they choose to discuss are always diverse, but mostly centered around their blackness. But I love that it isn’t always the focus of their videos and they tend to connect those things at the right time. Their videos are very lengthy, but its all worth it in the end.

Jubilee

I wouldn’t really consider this commentary, its more like a discussion. However I do center a lot of my values around some of these discussions. I really love this channel, I love that we get to hear from two opposing sides and really get to the heart of conflicting views, Middle Ground. The content is very diverse they have videos like this one where  two opposing sides come together to discuss why they’re right. Or they have videos where it is a spectrum and people of the same side or common thinking talk about the extent to their values. Then they have harmless videos where they take on dating shows. It is really a huge range when it comes to this channel and I really encourage you to check it out.

Ten Things I love About atla/lok Part 2 :)

Welcome back everyone! As stated last week, this week I continue my list of the things I love about the Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra universe! Rolling right in:

6) Metalbending/The Beifong Family

Now, I have always and will always say that waterbending is my favorite; water is simply the superior element (feel free to fight me). However, I will concede a very close second to the Earth Kingdom for the art of metalbending. In all honesty, I’m not the biggest fan of metalbending in ATLA; the way Toph performs the skill is just a little too rough for my liking. However, that is understandable considering she did literally just invent it. The metalbending in LOK, though, is my absolute favorite. I have a specific soft spot for the Beifong sisters Lin and Su. The grace and precision with which those women metalbend was enough to spark my love for metalbending, and along with members of the family like Opal and the twins, my love for the entire Beifong family.

7) Asami

Honestly, I could leave this section there and any LOK fan would understand. Asami is easily the most beautiful, wonderful character in the franchise. She is easily one of the most powerful and crucial nonbenders in the entire series (yes I include Sokka, come on Asami would destroy him). Not only that, she is versatile in her skillset and knowledge, unbending in her morals, and she is fabulously dressed at all times. I can absolutely see why all three of the main trio had a thing for her at some point; she’s absolutely amazing.

8) Zuko/Katara Vs. Azula Agni Kai

Okay, this is easily the best scene of the entire ATLA fight scene selections. This fight topped Aang v. Ozai any day and that I will not even argue; if you disagree, simply be wrong in silence. Seeing Azula slip and finally loose, as well as Zuko truly achieve his final redemption and Katara make her final rise to glory was absolutely heart-wrenching to watch. Zuko and Azula fought beautifully (my favorite firebenders hands down) and Katara’s takedown of Azula deserves every bit of the legend status it got her, both in the canon universe and in the fandom. This scene is the reason Zuko and Katara are my favorite ATLA characters, but mainly Katara (honorable mention to toph).

9) Tenzin’s airbending specifically

Okay, I am generally not the biggest fan of Tenzin. He seems a little too uptight for my liking, though I will concede to his moments of letting that facade slip. However, his bending is something that is utterly undeniable. The writer’s of that show did an immeasurably successful job at integrating his deep connection with airbending/his father’s legacy into his character, and it’s obvious in everything from his stance when resting to his every combative move. His fight against Zaheer and the Red Lotus was literally legendary, and it absolutely should be. Every Tenzin airbending moment has me glued to my seat, even on what must be my fifth rewatch.

10) Korra’s clapbacks

Last but not least, we have Korra’s moments of absolute savagery. In all honesty, I did not think there could be a more iconic moment than when she sicked Naga on Tahno in that noodle place. The idea that she had just completely owned that bully in a public place couldn’t get any better. That is, until she absolutely (and somewhat literally) wiped the floor with him in their one-on-one tiebreaker in the arena. Some will complain that it didn’t go on long enough, but I will forever say that her needing only those two moves to get the best of him speaks volumes towards her character. Plus, she had several other moments in the show where she was just entirely too good at combacks, and you have to admit that, love her or hate her.

Well, that completes this list and this weeks blog! I love this franchise for many reasons, only a few of which made it onto the list. Feel free to comment some of your favorites if you’ve seen the shows! Until next time,

Sincerely, someone who would kill to watch a pro-bending match.

Ranking the villagers on My Animal Crossing Island

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog! No more batman because my mom says I need to change it up. HERE WE ARE. We’re changing and shifting over to Animal Crossing! I have been playing this game since the summer of 2020 and have accumulated 245 hours or more. Today, we will be looking at my villagers and ranking them. I love them all so much, except for this one.

10. Sylvia

Sylvia is a kangaroo, if you couldn’t already tell. I don’t think she’s the prettiest villager, and her pineapple dress is horrid. Frankly, I don’t like kids either, so this was just a double no for me. I am looking to get rid of her soon, so if anyone in the animal crossing world wants her, please come and get her. I can’t do this anymore.

9. Aurora

Aurora is literally just a sweetie pie. I love her vibe. I love her house. I love most things about her, but she doesn’t stand out amongst the others. Also, SPOILER ALERT, I started my island with Roald, who is also a penguin, and now I am convinced that they’re a thing because I see them together all the time. I love it.

8. Octavian

Some people will go bonkers over his rating because Octopi are very rare in this game. If this were Marina or someone else, I probably would put him higher, but for now, here he is. I like how his face scrunches up, and he looks so grouchy. I am a grouch, so I love this grouch.

7. Julian

I absolutely hate putting him here because I’ve had him for such a long time. I am very much convinced he’s fruity, though. His nickname for me is sparkle guys. His zodiac-inspired home is also such a great addon to the vibe of my island. PLUS, HE IS A UNICORN.

6. Bob

This is bob. Bob is a cat. I love Bob. My favorite thing with bob is giving him a tuxedo and a pink sweater vest. He rocks it every time, so I will never stop. Literally, every time I go to the clothing store, I buy this guy something. He deserves the world. HIS CATCH PHRASE— it’s so cute. It’s “pthhpth” like he’s got hair in his mouth or something. He’s a goofy guy.

5. Pekoe

Pekoe is a bear cub who might be the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. When I walked into my campsite and saw her, my jaw dropped. I HAD to have her. I mean, just look at her. She is so sweet too! I like to give her pink clothes to make her even cuter.

4/3. Shep and Cherry

I refuse ever to separate these two. I love them both for so many different reasons, and I have made sure their houses are next to each other, just like Roald and Aurora. Don’t make this weird, guys. Shep is somewhat soft cottage core, and Cherry is the most emo thing I have ever seen. They are perfect for each other. Also, the more I look up pictures for these guys, the scarier it gets…

2. Roald

I know Roald might not look like much to you, but he has been with me since day one. He was my favorite starter villager, and I was lucky to get him too! He’s a jock type, so you can find him running around lifting dumbells and doing yoga to impress Aurora. He calls me “B-B-Buddy” like he’s shivering, and I think that that was just perfect for him.

1. Shino

Shino is the prettiest, sweetest, funniest, and most famous of my villagers. She is also the newest. I saw her reading a book under one of the cherry blossom trees the other day, and I took forty pictures. Everything about her is fantastic. I can see myself spending a lot of bells (money) on her in the future. I MEAN, LOOK AT HER. The little fangs are adorable.

Thank you for reading my blog this week and I hope to see you next week! <3

File 39 – Report 16 – Section 5: The Always

Hello! Quick writers note before we begin! This is a fun little project I am going to be working on for the rest of the school year, and it is going to be an experiment in a type of writing I am not particularly confident in. Therefore, I’m using blogs to give myself some practice before I do anything major with it. Hope you enjoy :)! Also, yes, this first one is inspired by The SCP Foundation.

//////////////////////////

The Always, sometimes referred to as The Never, is an anomalous period of time that can be induced unto another, often resulting in high levels of paranoia and an increase in cases of Deja vu. While under it’s affects, the victim will experience a “pause” of sorts in time. Often, they will not realize that the pause is even in place. They will go about their life as usual, even living entirely fleshed out lives. However, upon any form of death, they will immediately be reverted back to the moment that they were put under the effect. The victim will, once they revert, exhibit a strong amount of paranoia and enter into a depressive state, often taking drastic measures. However, if the victim survives for ten minutes, they will seem to completely forget any of the events that transpired.

The Deja vu kicks in as a result of whatever they experienced while under the influence to have high similarities to events that actually occur in reality. However, it is not a constant occurrence, as this Deja vu only happens around once or twice every day. This is extremely low compared to later stages.

After around two months to three years have passed, the Deja vu experienced will increase in frequency and severity, oftentimes leading the victim to believe that they themselves are already dead. Though in this stage they are still capable of being stabilized, oftentimes by speaking to someone they are close to, or being neutralized with some form of anesthesia.

The final stage begins around the time that it is speculated that their death had actually happened. The victim becomes non-responsive to any outer stimuli. This is joined with frequent paranoic episodes, increasing with severity as time goes on. The length in time that this lasts is from around 3-5 months, the longest being recorded to have reached 18 months total, though the victim in this situation was met with several other anomalous circumstances.

Finally, the victim will once again return to how they were normally. However, witnessing the victim return to consciousness immediately induces this state onto any people in proximity. After this return to normalcy, the victim will have around 5 minutes to live before dying of what appears to be total bodily failure.

There have been 3 total ways of inducing The Always identified so far. One, as previously mentioned, is to witness the return of another victim. Another is induced by an overwhelmingly strong sense of Deja vu that happens suddenly. Finally, it can also be induced when reading the anomalous collection known as “The Solomon Archives”, which is an entirely separate report.

////////////////////////

Well! That’s the end of that! Once again, I hope you enjoyed reading this! The next one, as you may have guessed, is going to cover the aforementioned Solomon Archives. This, however, will be presented closer to a first person POV report of someone’s own encounter with it, instead of the SCP wiki-style report shown above. Since I prefer psychological horror, I won’t have any crazy malevolent entities that hunt people down. Instead, I prefer the realistic horror of being affected by a life you never really lived :). Have a great day!

When The Snake Strikes Back

March is the month of the woman, when spring brings forth new beginnings and birth a new season supporting constant growth and life, just as women do. In light of March being Women’s History Month, I decided to research different women artists and stumbled upon one I was already quite familiar with.

I am no stranger to Zora Neale Hurston’s work, specifically her poetry,  and when I ran across her short story “Sweat”, I instantly felt the need to write about it. “Sweat” is an ironic story where what has been said will come back to bite you in the end. It is a story of faith, culture, and a spotlight on many issues women faced during the time it was written.

“Sweat” was written in 1926 during a time where women were seen as no more than a caterer and housewife, made to serve their husbands and birth children. Contrary to this, in the story ,the wife, Delia Jones, and husband, Skyes, had been married for 15 years and had no children. I felt this was because of the hidden hatred developed overtime by the two characters.

Also a contrary to the housewife and breadwinner stereotype, Delia was the breadwinner of the house as a washerwoman and Skyes was unemployed. Though Skyes was unemployed, he still found time to entertain and maintain his mistress’ lifestyle and be seen as the “big man” of the town. There were numerous times where his mistress would even wait for him outside of Delia’s home showcasing the ultimate disrespect.

Delia, though somewhat phased by this, did not allow this to break her, instead Delia stood by her faith and did what she was always known to do, sweat, work and pray.

Running across the story, I had many speculations of what it could  be about, but after reading it, I understood the action of sweating to represent the frustration Delia felt within her marriage, how much she worked (often overworked) and even the turmoil she would face with the abuse within her marriage.

The days of Delia’s abuse and suffering of her husband’s infidelity would end once a snake is brought into their shared home by Skyes. Unknown to him at the time, the conjuring of chaos would be the cause of his very demise. I will not explain the plot of the story nor summarize it because I feel that this is a good read and should be experienced first hand by the reader.

I encourage anyone who reads this blog to read this short story, it is no more than 15 pages and can be found online. Reading “Sweat” will take no more than 30 minutes of your time.

“Sweat” is a well-rounded story with a high climax and satisfying ending. It features the conflict of an abusive marriage, women’s struggles, and infidelity. It also features a display of broken stereotypes that challenge the way of the times.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed reading this and hope you will do the same. If you do decide to do so, please let me know how you feel about it in the comments.

Back to the bookshelf,

Taylor
