Frog Weather

Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit…

Recently, it was raining buckets at school. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve seen, but having to walk through shoe-soaking paths with a paper-thin backpack full of important items wasn’t very funky fresh. Climbing onto the bus, my socks were soaked to the bone, and it would take the entire day for my backpack and purse to completely dry. The bust seats were also watery, I had a dripping umbrella in hand, and the thought that my hair probably looked disastrous nagged at my mind. It was a fun experience to share- I have gladly added it to my brain folder for future writing reference, as I like to collect moments like trading cards- but during the moment, it was nothing special. I joined in on complaining about the weather despite how anxious complaining can make me, because it was complaint-worthy. Doing so did make me feel… not sad, but not good. Neutral with a side of “Man. This sucks.”

But then a thought came to me. My braincells aligned themselves in perfect form, and I realized something truly amazing.

“It’s frog weather.”

A likely goofy grin broke onto my face as I blurted out that thought, voice unfurling in leafy wonder. It’s frog weather. Being soaked is exactly what a little frog would love, and my shoes were squelchy like a frog’s step. Frogs slipping into mud puddles, frogs sitting in loafs on drenched trees, frogs blinking their eyes as droplets plonk onto their faces. Frog weather!

The amount of happiness this thought gave me feels almost childish, but I love it. I remember walking to class with a smile, and I impulsively said to a passing woman, “It’s frog weather!” She said “Yeah!” in response, likely not realizing the gravity of the phrase. Frog weather!

I think I said the words to some of my friends as well, but I know I thought it more often than I said it. Frog weather, frog weather. I loved watching the raindrops hit the classroom window, imagining the earthy, lush scent of a rainstorm outdoors, mossy and muddy and froggy with frogs. Frog weather makes rain feel so much more sparkly. Maybe someone reading this will feel the same way as I do, and they’ll beam at the pitter-patter of raindrops with thoughts of frogs.

Ranking the Victorious Songs for Absolutely No Reason Whatsoever

Today I’ll be ranking songs from one of the shows that shaped my childhood. Worst to best.

1 . Bad Boys-Tori

Personally I just don’t vibe with this one, the cadence of it just throws me off and it’s not a vibe for me.

2. All I want is everything- Whole Cast

This performance just fell flat to me, I didn’t like the arrangement but their outfits ATE DOWN.

3. I want you back (cover)-Whole Cast

This song definitely brought out the strength in specifically Andre and Cat’s voices, but I think the rest of the gang’s voices didn’t fit that song. Also it’s hard to compete with the Jackson 5.

4. Make it Shine-Tori

I understand that this is the show’s theme song and don’t get me wrong it’s definitely a bop but compared to the others I just don’t think it can compete. It’s just not going to be the one I turn on when I want to listen to music from that show.

5. Best Friend’s Brother-Tori

It’s cute, I love a quirky little acronym but it’s often a hit or miss with me. I love the performance though, despite my safety and equipment concern performing in the rain is pretty cool.

6. Faster than Boyz- Tori and Andre

I know this song is probably forgettable for most but something about Tori’s falsetto is just UGH. I listen to that song specifically for that, the pitched voices can be a little off putting but the falsetto I can’t just let it go.

7. Beggin’ on your knees-Tori

I love vengeful bop, It’s not my favorite but the pettiness of having the guy the song is dumping on onstage as you perform bumps it up on the list.

8. Tell me that you love me-Tori and Andre

Not much to say about this song, Andre was beautiful on it, as he always is but Tori just threw me off.

9. Favorite Foods- Tori, Andre, Beck, Robbie, Jade, and Cat

This song genuinely makes a good kids song, and the fact that Andre was able to turn it into an even better song just makes it even more loveable. If this was a real song it’d go bonkers amongst toddlers

10. Shut up and Dance-Tori, Andre, Beck, Robbie, Jade, and Cat

This song is this high purely because of Trina’s part and the harmonies between the girls. I love that the show took time to remind us that despite the character Trina’s actress plays she can still sing.

11.  Here’s 2 us-Tori

This song is super fun, it feels like one you’d play at a graduation party. It’s just such a pleasant heartfelt banger.

12. It’s Not Christmas Without You- Cat, Tori, Jade, and Andre

We have to give Andre his props for managing to write a GOOD new christmas song, his teacher was tweaking when he gave him a D for this beautiful song. I also loved when he jumped on the performance.

13. Freak the Freak out-Tori

This song is one that ignites such strong memories for me, I remember singing this at like 8 in front of the tv like a maniac. And the wardrobe change while singing definitely helped it.

14. Countdown-Tori and Andre

What can I say Andre knows how to write and sing a song. This is definitely one of my favorite Tori and Andre duets.

15. La Boys- Cat and Tori

Cat’s voice was often kept hidden especially in duets with Tori, because the show needed Ariana to chill because Victoria Justice was the main character but the run they let her give us in this song is ingrained in my brain. Tori was also really good in this as well.

16. Broken Glass- Robbie

I love a good parody song and this is the perfect example of this, I know every word to this song it’s so disgustingly catchy.

17. Give it up- Jade and Cat

Jade and Cat are definitely a top performance duo, this song GAVE everything it needed to. They were ROBBED in that Karaoke contest.

18.  Leave it All to Shine (ICarly mashup)- ICarly and Victorious cast

The ICarly Victorious mashup is a defining moment of my childhood, the lyrics, the arrangements, the harmonies. Magnificent. It gave us everything and we should be grateful.

19. You’re the Reason-Tori

This song is super sweet, one of the few moments we see Tori and Trina’s love for each other purely and although it didn’t last long it was sweet. I would love a version where it’s just Andre singing though, what can I say that man’s voice is sunshine.

20. Take a Hint-Tori and Jade

Jade and Tori’s voices worked so well together here. And singing your rejection is a whole nother level of baddie.

21.  I Think You’re Swell-Robbie

This song was so sweet, It showcases Robbie genuine adoration for Cat beyond just a crush. I love a self aware corny love song.

22. Song 2 You-Andre and Tori

This was the better sister of Favorite Foods, this song is unnecessarily good, only gripe is that I wish it was a Andre solo but Tori sounded good too.

23. You don’t know me-Jade

Even though this song brought Jade and Beck back together, which I don’t love Jade finally got her well deserved solo and she killed it. It was so fitting for her.

24. 365 Days-Andre and Tori

My top favorite song has to be an Andre song, he was the most talented in my opinion and although I wish this was a solo him and Tori’s harmonies were gorgeous and can’t be forgotten.

Differences

                                                            Hello Lovelies,

* Quick note:  This was supposed to be my beginning of the year blog, but plans changed*

Coming into the new year is a time when people usually start doing things that are different from the person, they were the previous year.   The difference can be new friends or any relationship encounters, there could be a different clothing choice, or just different opinions from what you originally had in your mind, whether it’s the best food, the worst restaurant, or a TV show that everyone loved, and you hated, can change into your favorite show and the show that everyone despises.

The point is, there are going to be differences.

So, today I’m going to discuss some of the people I know personally, Hot Takes, in which they were told they were just trying to be “different.”

* Note:  I got permission to tell their opinions with their explanation, but I will not be using their names.  Also remember, this is their OPINIONS, just what they think, because no one thinks the same.

Let’s start with explaining what a Hot Take is.  A Hot Take is a piece of commentary, typically produced quickly in response to a recent event, whose primary purpose is to attract attention, states Google.

Or in this day and age, what we call is an unpopular opinion that someone makes because they’re trying to be different, which I mean, everyone is different.

I’m not ranking them or anything, I’m mainly just talking about them and explaining the reasoning I received.

                                                          #Owl House

This comment took place during a conversation about some shows that were making the Disney Channel go downhill.   Some of us listed things like “ Coop and Cami ask the world” or “Raven’s Home and Sydney to the Max” for examples.   We were just going back and forth with this random topic, even touching on some ones that we think had potential until they were canceled then we went to other channels like Cartoon Network shows that didn’t need to be made,  when out of the blue it stuck out like a sore thumb that someone said exactly, “Yea, I’m sorry but I hate Owl House, like it didn’t catch my attention.” (Also, this person knows Owl House isn’t part of CN)

We could all hear the record stop mentally.   All of us were quiet until someone replied with, “I mean, I like Owl House, but I understand it really wasn’t for everybody.”

Most people murmured in agreement until before the person gave us their reasoning speech.

The reasoning: “I tried watching it but after that first episode I couldn’t get into it.   Maybe it just wasn’t my type of show but the plot from the little I saw didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. So, it’s not that I hate it, but I didn’t understand the concept.”

Everyone was vaguely pleased with that answer, well kind of.  There was still that one person begging passive aggressively for a more detailed reasoning.  Saying, “I just need to know why.  It doesn’t make any sense,” but soon they remembered that everyone has opinions and not all are going to match.

                #Influencer OverRated

This one I’ve received recently and there’s no specific story behind it besides the fact that I asked for their biggest Hot Take.  Their statement overall was that “influencers are overrated and kind of boring.”    I asked for an example to further explain the statement, their words were “Most mommy Vlogs and others alike should be taken down and the parents should be charged for child endangerment.”

I’m guessing part of the reason for that kind of Take deals with all of the drama with the mom Youtuber, Ruby Franke, who just got arrested.   I don’t keep up with the case but that’s a recent example of what’s wrong with influencers and why some of them should be taken down.

Also, just my own input, I do know a lot of influencers that are starting to seem overrated, especially when you see all of the drama they’re being pulled into.

              # The Superior Chicken

A lot of the Hot Takes around here seem to deal with food or just restaurants basically, and which one is better.  For this one specifically, someone once told me that Popeye is superior to Chick-Fil-A.  They explained that Chick-Fil-A food is dry, and their waffles fries are nasty.  They stated that the only thing that they’ll get from Chick-Fil-A is their Mac and cheese, and that’s only on a bad day.  While Popeyes’s chicken is always juicy and fresh and their only downside is their biscuits (which they added, they don’t really have a problem with.)   They just believe that everyone hypes up Chick-Fil-A with their chicken nuggets and their macaroni and cheese because it would be trendy to eat it, but it’s not really just special.

This was their take on which restaurant was actually better to them.

Also, here’s some quick Hot Takes that I’ve heard:                                                                1) Breakfast is the least important meal of the day.                                                              2) Mint Ice-cream is the best ice-cream flavor.                                                                   3) Milk should always go before the cereal.

Okay, see you soon 🙂

Life Before MSA

So I’ve been sitting here for about an hour trying to figure out what I was going to do for this post. And I came up with nothing. So I was just going to give a little insight into what my life was like before coming to MSA.

So, I’m not sure if I’ve told many people here about this, but I used to be a Military brat. Which means me and my whole family would move from state to state nearly once a year.  I’ve been everywhere from Hawaii to Newyork, and some states to the left like Kansas or Wyoming.

Which unfortunately means I wasn’t able to many lifelong friends, since we lost touch just as quickly as we met one another. So It’s mainly just been me and my two younger siblings.

While moving around the United States, I’ve seen some pretty interesting things, like mount Rushmore, and “Ol’ Faithful” in Wyoming. We’ve been through the smokey mountains a few times. But My Favorite place we’ve lived in West Point, New York.

West Point, NY

My Dad is often called to different military institutions. For instance, He worked at Camp Shelby here in MS before he retired, or Fort Leavenworth in KS.
But he was called to either teach or work at West Point for two years.
And first of all, West Point’s buildings are amazing. I always say they look like a modern castle of sorts, and it’s even got a sort of moat. It’s almost entirely surrounded by the Hudson River.  I took a few photos of it which I’ll leave at the end.

On West Point, for the first year, I think it was right before Covid-19, it was my entire family. Me and my siblings were enrolled in homeschool, and that was fun. But the second year, my mom and siblings moved to MS to take care of my grandfather. And My dad was constantly posted across seas, So, if possible, I wanted to stay with him so he wouldn’t feel alone.

Anyways, My Dad and I had some fun traditions that we made while we were up there. Every Friday night we would always order “Bear Mountain Pizza” and watch “The Mandalorian”.  And since my Mom was in MS, my dad had to learn how to cook, so he ordered one of those… Box of food things that come prepped, and you just have to cook it.

All in all, I’m glad I grew up running around the United states, I’ve gotten to see a lot of what some people might not see in their lifetime.  And now were here in MS again, for good since my Dad retired.

Loss of Control

Your body is not your own. It never belonged to anyone, but the crowd begs for an encore so in one final move, you rip your heart out of your chest and present it, still beating. The crowd goes wild.

Your body is not your own. It never belonged to anyone, but here you sit, sacrificing your skin to exist on raw flesh alone, and praying they don’t ask for more. You can’t sit comfortable in exposed bone.

Your body is not your own. It never belonged to anyone, but strangers gnaw on your visage like free candy, so you leave pieces at home until there was less of you to eat. Eventually, there’s too much. You don’t show up.

Your body is not your own. It never belonged to anyone, but the mirror is a cruel mistress and rather than remove its horrible face and admit defeat, you reshape. Recreate until your smile is an amalgamation and your face is something made of diamonds.

Your body is not your own. It never belonged to anyone, but the tithe you pay isn’t enough. They ask one thing of you: an offering. Down the drain of this little wooden pail goes red streams and they take it back with a smile. You’ve done your duty.

Your body is not your own. It never belonged to anyone, but still, they’ve plucked too many teeth to go back now, so all they can do is pluck out one more, say sorry, and then take their blood-soaked hand and pluck out another. They had good intentions. Truly, they did.

Your body is not your own. It never belonged to anyone, but you’ve given up too much to go back now. Your body is made of fire and ash and made to sell 0.99, your body is perfect.

Your body is worth nothing. Your body is not your own.

Part Three

Quick Disclaimer, I’m currently suffering with covid in my bed so here is part three to a story blog that I wrote a few months ago.

“JOHN” Otto screamed as John stomped the bottom of his worn out leather working boots upon the brake pedal. Weather from the puddle-ridden highway erupting into the air as the ambulance’s tires screeched to a halt. Now skidding across the asphalt, John’s once calm and collective demeanor now littered with thoughts of alarm and panic as they attempted not to hit the figure that stood in the road.

“What was that? Who was that? Why can’t I move? Why won’t I move”

However his inner dialogue was cut short almost immediately by Otto’s apparent audible reaction.

“Wha-What was that, why did it look like that. Its eyes, Jesus John it’s eyes. Do we go back for it, does it need help? John for the love of God say something.”

“Otto shut up, give me a minute” John interrupts, his mind racing.

They were plagued with silence, not because neither of them wanted to talk, but because neither of them found it within themselves to do so. All John could do was grasp the metal cross that hung from his neck and rested upon his collarbone.

John and Otto both knew that neither of them had time for this, however they couldn’t move, a feeling of dread washed over both of them in the same manner that rainwater now washed over the ambulance. It was the type of dread that towered over them far more than the idea of any impending consequences that they might have received, and so they sat there. Seconds turned into a minute a minute turned into ten, their silence speaking louder than any scream that they possibly could have let out. It was almost as if they found themselves in a collective trance, whether it was one of their own making or not was not something that either of them were at liberty to say.

“Alright, we have to go,” John said as he turned the keys into submission.

The ride was tense, thoughts of both panic and confusion berated the minds of the EMT’s as they arrived.

“This is the place they said, right?” Otto asked, finally breaking the silence.

“On the dot,” John replied.

The house was deserted, not just by any possible residents but by any authority as well. Not a policeman or fireman in sight.

The Favorite Final

                                                            Hi Lovelies,

Since I was snowed in my house with no Wi-Fi and couldn’t find any of my books I left at home, I made a decision to go through my old school bookbag until I found something interesting.  I discovered something precious, my former school English class final project.   It was an assignment to create my own art scrapbook.                                                                                                                               Listen, I know it sounds easy, but the process was actually pretty tedious and took a whole week to finish.    Why?  Well one reason is because we had to make a book cover out of paper, homemade paper.   Then, after we made the homemade paper, we had to actually make the art (poems, paintings, dot art and etc.)   I opted for poetry of course, and there was some art that I did, but I think it’s better if I show you then tell you.

Here’s the cover I made out of homemade paper:

Its contents are leaves, water, flowers, construction paper scraps and a little bit of cornstarch.   It took the whole week to dry, and after that it made me mad because the one I made broke, so I had to get someone else’s.  I didn’t mind that it was someone else’s but I worked so hard on it.  Anyway, it was really thick and kind of hard to pierce through, but we made it work.

Here’s the second page of the book:  My Limerick Poem

As a little chili I was happy

Even though my hair is nappy

Even when I slept in the tub

I still got belly rubs

Loves how this sound wacky

I tried as far as my brain would let me for a grade.   My teacher loved it, so that’s what matters, also I can see how my work has evolved.   There was also an explanation card to go with it, and the one for this poem stated:

This Limerick poem is a funny rhyme about a cute baby who slept in tubs.

That’s all.   That one sentence, says it all.

The fourth page is my Ode to Horror Movies

Ode to Horror Movies

The night sky is the right time

To scream out of your mind

It’s scary to watch a crime

A look through twisted mankind

Crazy how people have the brain to write

The things that makes us faint

Some teens can contain the frightening

Even when unreal you still shiver at the sight

Each script is artfully quaint

All posters make it more enlightening

You know, when I wrote this, I really thought I ate, but now I’m slightly wincing.   I like it for my first attempt at an Ode, but I will most likely revise this entirely.

This one also has an explanation card, it reads:

My Ode poem is catchy as it talks about my fascination with horror movies. They’re frightening and enlightening.

Boom Chaka La, chef’s kiss.  Kidding, Kidding, I tried.

The next one is my dot art for my friend Kenia, she really did not like how it turned out, but in my defense I tried.

It’s safe to say that this did not turn out how I wanted it to, at all, but I gave it my best shot.  I had to get an actual picture of her, use that picture to AI generate an anime version of it, then color it in with dots.   This frustrated me so badly, but I really did not want to do the alternative portrait, so I tried this.   If you’re patient it would be fun, if you’re like me and don’t really like doing something that takes time, then think really long and hard about doing this.

The explanation card that goes with this read:

My dot portrait is Kenia.  Kenia is a really close friend who handed my years of friendship.  She’s goofy and sarcastic and really wanted me to do my dot picture on her.

Yes, I actually said that.   She was cool with it, but she regretted her decision immensely.

Lastly, the final page was my first abstract art.   I loved it, it really calmed me to take the time to paint and reflect.

There’s nothing specific for this, but I tried to make an emotional ocean sunrise.

A better explanation would be what the card reads, and it reads:

In my abstract I have purple and yellow rain.   Purple means calm, passion, and elegance.  Yellow means peace and happiness.  The rain goes down into the rushing waves of my indecisiveness.  On the waves is a box which is unleashing my dark and light sparkly imagination.

Sounds so beautiful each time I read it, I really put my heart into this.   At least I think I did.

Anyway, that’s that, it was a creative final grade.  I made a hundred on it and it was kind of fun to do.

Also, here’s what the explanation cards looked like.

Top 3 Anime End-Themes of All Time (Not Clickbait)

I cannot believe you fell for the clickbait. Kind of.

am going to be ranking top three anime end-themes, except it’s just my personal opinion from the media I have watched. Expectedly, the songs I’ve picked are from my two favorite animes as of now! Yes, yes, I know, “Two? You have three songs; get yourself some variety.” To that I say I already have variety, especially in my ominous bone collection. Though I am very open to discovering new media, when the songs are good, they’re good. So, let’s move on, shall we? But first!

This blog includes MAJOR SPOILERS for Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Land of the Lustrous, which is also known as Houseki no Kuni. I usually refer to it as Houseki no Kuni.

If you have not checked out either of these stories and love psychological horror, phenomenal soundtracks, flavorful visuals, and absolutely superb plots, I highly recommend closing this blog in favor of watching/reading the aforementioned stories. They are incredible to go into blind.

Alright, warning given! Now we can actually get into the list.

  1.                    And I’m Home (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

This song, fueled by what happened in the singular episode it played, wrecked me when I heard it. A large part of its emotional value comes from context gained via watching the series, but that isn’t to say that the song itself isn’t beautiful. The instruments and vocals itch my brain just right, and everything sounds so smooth and blue! Which is fitting, considering what the song plays for.

And I’m Home, sung by two characters within the series- their actual characters, judging from the lyrics, voice actors, and the ending art (shown above)- plays at the end of episode 9. It’s fittingly centered around the emotions of Kyoko Sakura (VA: Ai Nonaka) and Sayaka Miki (VA: Eri Kitamura), detailing struggle but also love. Some of the lines are:

“(Duet) No matter how many times you feel that way,

there will always be warmth here.

Even if it was a mistake, I don’t care, I’ll always be by your side.”

(Content Warning: Unsubscribing to Life)

What hurts the most is that episode 9 is the episode where both of these characters die. Sayaka is transformed into another being, dying in the process, and Kyoko spends her last moments trying to call out to “Sayaka.” However, Kyoko ends up realizing it’s useless, and kills both herself and “Sayaka” at the end of a heartfelt speech. I could talk about the writing of that scene for forever- just these words don’t do it justice.

  1.               Magia by Kalafina (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

The tone shift of going from Madoka Magica’s previous happy, lighthearted end theme to a guitar driven, dark, and dangerous theme is wild in the best way possible. It really highlights how the series starts off looking innocent, when in reality, it’s a psychological horror! Not to mention that this theme is foreshadowing in the best way possible. At first, it appears to be your standard dark end-theme, but when a plot twist is revealed towards the end of the series, you realize that Magia was about that plot twist the entire time. The wonderfully crafted lyrics aren’t about the main character at all- they’re about the character who was the early antagonist, what she’s feeling, and what she’s hoping for, along with the plot twist and ending. Also I go crazy for the violin and guitar in this- I really wish there were more songs who used both! Here are some of the lyrics:

“In these frightened hands of mine,

courage is made of handpicked flowers

My feelings alone are all that I rely upon,

a wish that will awaken

the light.”

  1.                           Liquescimus (Houseki no Kuni)

Wow, another song that plays after a character death! Yay… What makes it worse (better)  is that its another in-character song, sung by Phosphophyllite (VA: Tomoyo Kurosawa.) The vocals of this song feel like the embodiment of sadness, and the pacing of the instruments only adds to the sorrow. One of the things I really love about this song is that it’s in character to the events and worldbuilding of Houseki no Kuni. Character death is equivalent to being taken to the moon in this world, and in Liquescimus, Phosphophyllite sings about Antarcticite being taken to the moon. It plays over the above image- Antarcticite’s resting place- to really hurt your soul. This song also foreshadows the events of the Manga, where Phosphophyllite forgets more and more of their life, including Antarcticite. Here are some of the lyrics:

“There is now only a

white phantom that looks like you,

shatters when it comes,

and goes off to the moon.”

Ranking Thomas Jasper Cat’s outfits with unnecessary sincerity.

Yes this is about Tom from Tom and Jerry, no there’s no valid reason for me writing this but I fear I won’t be able to stop thinking about it till the crime has been committed.  This list is best to worse.

This one is definitely last on the list, I’m not feeling the bald head and wife beater, It’s very tired father chic. And compared to the other outfits we have seen from him this is definitely pretty disappointing.

He’s definitely very cute in this one, I love a modest beach fit, but the solid red is kind of bland. I would have loved to see a brighter color. Also the long pant leg seems unreasonable as he already has fur and I’d imagine he’d want to keep cool at the beach. Overall cute fit but definitely would love some shorts and some cute design, possibly white flowers maybe some polka-dots.

Tom is for sure serving here, I mean look at the little hat and the collar, I’M GAGGED. My only critique is I wish we did a bit more with it. It’s just a shall, if we added some fancy gloves maybe fingerless could be a vibe. Besides that this is definitely one of his best looks.

Now personally orange and green aren’t my favorite color combo, but he just looks so stinking cute here, and the HAT. UGH, I also feel the need to give this look its flowers cause my boy made it out of A CURTAIN. No one’s out here doing it like him. Side note: his little hands omg.

He ate this down. The boots, the gloves, the hat….THE VEST. He has his foot propped up like that because he’s a professional at stepping on these other felines’ necks. Garfield COULD NEVER. AND the “Howdy” smoke cloud that he blew HIMSELF come on now. HE’S HIM.

Now I do have my feelings about this fit, he’s giving prim, he’s giving proper. I do wish we had some nice slacks to go with it but with the cape and the tie. Not to mention the bow, come one and he’s conducting an orchestra. Like his talent is limitless.

I may not agree with his bloodlust for Jerry but I understand that he was just doing his job. I mean Jerry was actively making his life harder, but you also can’t be mad at Jerry because he was just trying to survive.
