Hello bois. Today’s blog is about the one and only Mac Miller. As we all know, I am OBSESSED with his music, his interviews, personality, photos, etc. Like y’all don’t understand how important Mac Miller is to me. But like, the topic of today’s blog is the misconception that Arianna Grande was the ONLY girlfriend that was truly important to him.
Now look, no hate to Arianna (a little hate because yknow, she split up a loving family and all) but Nomi was the girl for Mac. Y’all, now that I’m thinking about it, this blog is so parasocial for me to write, but I swear it’s not like that, I’m just… stating an opinion on a frequently brought up topic!
Let’s start off with the basics: Who is Mac Miller? What’s his relation to Arianna Grande? Who is Nomi?
Mac Miller is one of the worlds (in my opinion) best rappers out there. Per my previous blog, “GO:OD AM (A Mac Miller Lawsuit) which you can read here- GO:OD AM (A Mac Miller Lawsuit) – Literary Arts Blogspace , he released his first track at only 15, following with his first album KIDS at 18. Some of his most popular songs include: The Spins, Self Care, Weekend, and The Way. He unfortunately passed away on September 7, 2018, due to a drug overdose.
In his gone to quick life, he dated famous popstar Arianna Grande. There is more on this in my former blog mention earlier, but basically, they got together and stayed together for 2 years after making the song “The Way.” Arianna frequently mentions Mac Miller and how he was a huge inspiration for her throughout their friendship and relationship. She talks about how he influenced her to make RnB styled music, despite her fans not wanting it, and inspired her to be her authentic self no matter the amount of fame she acquires. Unfortunately, only 5 months before his passing, they broke up.
On the other hand, Nomi was Macs long term girlfriend, whom he met in high school. While Mac and Nomi kept their relationship pretty private, there are a few things we know. They got together around 2007-2008. Mac frequently talked about Nomi in his music, and he gave us little glimpses into what was happening during the last weeks of their relationship. The verse that is often talked about when mention this song goes like this:

I can't be seen again with you and all of your friends
It's so hard to pretend that it's like it was way back when
I thought you used to be the one
I guess you don't have time
'Cause all you do is grind, and it's got me lose my mind

So you can leave a message at the beep
Through this, we can see that during the end of their relationship, Nomi may have felt unnoticed or ignored. While this is a common occurrence for celebrities and their partners, that does not mean she is in the wrong at all. In another song, ROS, it is coded with lyrics for Nomi.
You was here, I ran from you, scared to take that step
But now that I am ready, you not, you up and left me
Hope your new man make you laugh like I do
I do not mean to worry you with my obsession, I just want to be beside you
I'm too nice, and I had to pay that price

This alludes to the fact that maybe Nomi was ready to fully settle down, and Mac just wasn’t ready for that. It also shows that maybe when Nomi moved on, he felt like he’d missed out or messed something up within their relationship.
Though, in the end, it is no one’s business who they are with, or what they are going through together, knowing context of what a singer is going through usually helps us get a better understanding and connection to their music.
As for Nomi, she is now married with a child! She is a model (which she started fairly young) and a very successful journalist. She has worked for big companies like Google, Adidas, and CBS. The first time she posted her husband was in 2017, and I am genuinely so glad she was able to move on and settle with the love of her life.
