in season 3 ep 24 of steven universe steven travels inside lion and finds bismuth- as masculine blacksmith ready to lay her life down for the revolution. now this is why I don’t like her character.
bismuth character was focused on war and destruction, or she was rather blinded by it, I guess. she wanted to do whatever it took to kill the diamonds even if that meant killing other gems and of course rose happily agreed but deep-down rose knew she couldn’t let her do that because Suprise she was a diamond herself. killing one diamond would not be enough they needed to kill all of them. the writers made it seem as if that was bismuth whole character was made to be this bloodthirsty monster. she even built breaking point to shatter the diamonds. bismuth attacked steven believing it was rose attempting to stop her mission once more, leading to her being bubbled, fortunately in the episode “made of honor” she gets unbubbled and talked to properly where steven explains rose quarts = pink diamond. honestly, they should’ve bought back other gems and let us hear their “war” stories too.
bismuth was and probably still is suffering from ptsd from the war. now she has a family willing to fight for her as she will for them. I don’t like how her character is shown in the show, but the episode overall was in my opinion meant to represent ptsd in people who go to wars, or people who are still grieving. she now resided in little home world as a blacksmith; she and many other characters might appear in lar’s new show.

do y’all like bismuths character?
what do you think about her design?
i Personally really like Bismuth’s design, it really shows all the colors a real Bismuth shows.
I love Bismuth’s design, but from what I have seen and what you’ve said, I agree. I don’t feel like they delved into her character as much as they should have, or portrayed PTSD in an accurate light. Then again, I have never experienced PTSD from war, so I might be shadowing people who do relate to her. *shrug emoji*
I lovedd Bismuth’s PTSD and just her appearing as a whole. They genuinely added her to the INTRO of the show, making her seem like she’d be a permanent addition just to have that HEARTBREAKING scene in the end. The scene in the forge has little me STRESSED.
I definitely think that they could have done more for Bismuth, however I love her design. I feel like she was kind of lacking in character build up if that makes sense.
When I first watched the episode where Steven and Bismuth I was like; oh wow, they’re actually pretty chill until…halfway to the end I started jaw dropping from their lore.
