Barry

Barry is a T.V. show that is available to stream on Max. Recently, I have been seeing a lot more people watch it. So, I wanted to write this blog for anyone else who may have been interested. Just a heads up, this is a show full of violence and trauma. Watch if you want.

Barry was a show that I watched a while ago before its season four even came out. The series started as if it were a more serious comedy. This is probably because Bill Hader plays the main character and wrote part of the show so there is going to be a decent bit of comedy. But basically, Barry is about a former marine that could go back to civilian life, so he became a hitman. While on a new mission, he had to go into an acting class. This sparked his dream for acting and then became something he runs back to many times in the story while he gets entangled with nearby mafias. His worlds begin to crash together as his acting life starts getting too close to his killing life. Eventually, when all seems lost for Barry, he looks for any way possible to fix it.

Barry is a much deeper show than it seems. On the surface there’s the main story, but underneath that, there’s nods to the end of the story and character details that become a lot more prominent near the end of the show. Whether that be narcissism, a weak will, pride, courtesy. This show has so many likeable characters in it. NoHo Hank is one of those. He is by far my favorite character in the show. When you see him and how funny his character is, you’ll see what I mean. He also has a big character arc and becomes way bigger of a character than he was in the beginning. There are also very unlikeable characters in the show. But, for some reason you know they are perfect for the show and help develop it more.

This show really kept me entertained at the start of the post covid times. I really think that it was a very wonderful creation by the makers of the show. It’s quick action and deep story forces you to binge the whole show in one sitting. If you watch this show, please let me know what you think. Thank you!

Ranking Tyler, the creator albums!!

Tyler The Creator Net Worth (Updated 2023) - Bio Overview

Tyler, the Creator is one of my favorite artists and I can confidently say that I have heard at least two songs from every album of his!! Now I know J.T. did a blog his ranking songs, but I’m ranking albums so this is different >:] Also, I cannot put Cherry bomb or Goblin in this ranking, I have only heard two songs from Goblin and I’m kinda scared to listen to it!! And I only know like three from Cherry Bomb.

  1. Call me If you get lost

Tyler, The Creator Call Me If You Get Lost LP Vinyl Black | lupon.gov.ph

I love this album so much, specifically the estate sale because it’s the one I always listen to and the record I have. This has to be one of my actual top 10 albums. I don’t listen to it as much as I wish I did, but I definitely need to. I don’t know many of his songs by name because I listen to most of these on my record player, so it just goes, and I always have a good time when this album is playing. This album has a couple of popular songs like “Sweet/I thought you wanted to dance” and “Dogtooth” It is 1 hour and 17 minutes long and has 24 songs. My favorite song is “Massa”.

2. IGOR
Igor by Tyler, The Creator: Amazon.co.uk: CDs & Vinyl

I’d say this is one of his most popular, having a bunch of songs we all know and love as “A boy is a gun*”, “Are we still friends?”, and “New Magic Wand”. In this album Tyler is in love with a man who is dating a woman. To me the album is pretty collected in the way. You can hear his desperation, but it’s clear he’s upset. He’s goes through these many stages. He’s sad, then he accepts it, then he gets angry. This album is 39 minutes long and has 12 songs, my favorite song is “Puppet”.

3. Wolf

Wolf (Tyler, the Creator album) - Wikipedia

Oh my, I love Wolf so much. The album is oddly aggressive, and I just love when singers are like this. Truthfully, I don’t know many of these songs by name because I always listen to them on my record, but whenever I do it makes me just wanna hop around. One of his most popular songs is in this album, “IFHY”. There’s also “Colossus” that everyone has been talking about since “Noid” came out. Tyler will always be one of the only male rappers I can listen to and actually enjoy. This album is 1 hour and 10 minutes long and has 18 songs. My favorite song is “Awkward”.

4. Flower Boy

REVIEW: Tyler, the Creator's "Flower Boy" - Cult MTL

So, I really enjoy flower boy as a whole. Everything about it just makes me happy, the aesthetic, the vibe, and definitely the music. This album has one of his most popular songs “See you again.” Flower boy also has some of my favorite music videos. (I’ve only seen like three, but I never watch music vids please spare me.) I also just love that his albums have different vibes to them, it’s my favorite artist thing when all of their music sounds different but still like them. This album is 46 minutes long and has 14 songs. My favorite song is “Who dat boy”.

5. Chromakopia

Tyler, The Creator's New Album 'Chromakopia' Out October 28

Yummy, Chromakopia. Originally, I was gonna do a blog ranking these songs and I still might, just not now. This album and Kendrick’s album both dropping after I had the worst breakup ever literally got me over it faster! Being able to hear two of my favorite artists make the amazing music they did just makes me so happy. Chromakopia was everything to me when it came out, I listened to it over and over and I still enjoy all of these songs. I don’t care how much they get overplayed. The vibe in this is amazing and all of the features he added just makes it all the much better. The vulnerability in this album also just makes me wanna sob when I listen to it. Anyways, this album is 53 minutes long and has 14 songs. My favorite song is “Judge Judy”.

Richie Rambles: The Best Video Game You’ve Never Played

Yes, the title is presumptuous of me, but I’m 99.9% sure you haven’t played this game. Unlike my other deep-dives on video games that interest me, this will simply be a ramble about why I love this game so much. If it’s interesting to anyone, I will gladly do a deep-dive! Regardless of what you think by the end of this blog, this game is cheap on Steam and you should play it.

The day is June 14th, 2011. I am simply a baby, I have no idea the importance of this day. For on this day the game Alice: Madness Returns is released. This game follows the main character, Alice Liddell, and her adventures through Wonderland. In this game, Alice lost her parents and sister in a house fire. This fire severely burnt Alice and, after being accused of starting the fire, Alice was forced to live in an asylum. She is watched by a doctor (who only traumatizes her more), until being transferred to a home for wayward children. She is treated horribly by the staff and other children who live there, as many believe her to be a murder (at worst) or simply a weirdo (at best).

The artstyle of the game is my favorite part. With this grim twist on Alice in Wonderland, playing around with character designs and the settings is the most vital part- and this game does an excellent job. The dark and dingy normal world, the steampunk land where the Mad Hatter lives, the colorful and dangerous forest where you first meet the Cheshire cat- Everything is detailed perfectly. Every character is throughout in design, personality, and storyline. Despite the dark twist, the familiar characters of Alice in Wonderland still have many of their recognizable traits. The Chesire cat is playful and mysterious, the Queen of Hearts is power hungry and fueled by rage, and the Caterpillar is a wise oracle.

My favorite part is that, to go along with these new environments, Alice gets a new outfit! It’s a minor detail, but it’s vital in keeping everything cohesive.

While the story is very dark, and I definatly encourage people to be careful before playing (not only to watch out for gore, but also for the dark topics), I still highly encourage anyone interested to do more research and play this game! The gameplay is difficult, but fun, and the graphics are a bit outdated, but it adds to the charm. This game is one of the best examples of a story told through the video game medium (in my opinion) and more people should know about it!!

Life is Strange: True Colors (Part 2 of Blog Post “Life is Strange”)

Continuing on my post from last week, this post is about the fourth installment in the Life is Strange series, True Colors.  WARNING: THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE STORY!!!!!

In True Colors, players control Alexandra “Alex” Chen, a child previously stuck in the foster care system who has the gift of psychic empathy. Alex’s powers allow her to see and feel the emotions of other people, with those emotions presenting to Alex as an aura of colors in the air around a person. These abilities are viewed as a curse to Alex, as she gets lost in them, and feels the emotions as if they are her own. This has led her to view her powers as a curse. In the start of the game, Alex is fresh off a bus to Haven Springs, Colorado, where her brother, Gabe, lives. Gabe shows Alex around the town, introducing her to many residents. They town is mostly employed by a mining company, Typhon. Typhon is a prolific company, present in the entirety of the story and even before Gabe and Alex are even born. In the style of all the Life is Strange games, True Colors is set up in episodic style, though unlike other games it was released altogether on September 10th, 2021. Back to the game, Gabe leads Alex back to his apartment, which he gifts to her. They then meet Mac, an angry citizen who believes Gabe is in a relationship with Mac’s girlfriend, Riley. This is not true, as Riley is applying for a college, which Gabe is assisting her with. Mac attacks Gabe with Alex in the same room. Alex is soon “infected” by Mac’s anger and attacks Mac in animalistic fashion, driving him off. Afterwards, Alex explains to Gabe the nature of her powers.

Later that night, Gabe, Alex, and another citizen, Ryan, search for a missing boy. The boy is found in an old Typhon mining facility, stuck on a rotting tree over a chasm. The boy believes that there is a monster hiding under the log, waiting to grab him. His fear makes him immovable. Alex climbs across the log slowly and attempts to coax the boy back to safety, but is unable to do so. She tunes into his fear, unlocking another facet of her powers, the ability to gently influence these emotions and use them to assist people through their trauma. When Alex taps into the boy’s fear, she begins to see through his eyes and views the “monster” in the chasm. She knows that the monster isn’t real, but the boy’s fear makes it seem tangible. Braving the boy’s fear, Alex leads him to safety. Gabe tries to rappel down to retrieve something, but blasts sound off. Earlier that night, they had told Typhon to stop blasting, but Typhon didn’t listen. They began blasting, causing the chasm to deteriorate and crush Gabe.

This is only a short summary of the first episode, so I implore you to play the full game, as it is a masterpiece.

Much love,

Beulah

So, I’ve been listening to this band for a few months. It’s called Beulah. This band is particularly small, but they have appeared in a few popular movies and tv shows. I remember hearing one of its songs (Popular mechanics for lovers) as the credits rolled in the movie “Youth in Revolt.” In fact, that movie is how I discovered the band. Beulah is an indie rock band, and their music is out of this world. They combine genres like pop and rock, and they include sound elements of 60’s music in their songs. What I love most about them is their ability to pair cynical/upsetting song lyrics with a happy tune. It makes you guess what they mean and it’s surprising to hear really. Here’s a few songs I love:

                                       Popular mechanics for lovers

Popular Mechanics for lovers is my favorite because it sounds like the theme song for a cute little K- drama series. It has a happy, soft and playful rhythm. It’s the perfect song to pair with a happy ending in a movie or an easy beginning. It’s about an unhealthy relationship and the thoughts/challenges a person faces in one. If you’ve ever been a fan of sad love songs, this song is just that. The name of the song plays on the magazine series “Popular mechanics.” Which was basically a well-known “how to” magazine back then. What makes this song so great is the guitar!!! In almost every Beulah song there is a guitar tune along with the rest of the beat and it’s always amazing. It’s subtle and it compliments their music so well.

A Good man is easy to kill

This song sounds and feels like the 70s-80s. The intro (to me) sounds like the theme song to a popular 80s sitcom. It’s just ba da ba ba ba da da x5 until the first line begins. I don’t listen to a lot of 80s music, but from what I’ve heard, I can tell Beulah takes a lot of inspiration from those past music styles and artists. This song is about a man mocking/ridiculing a person close to him because of the personal choices they make. Although the lyrics are very coded and have tons of figurative language and metaphors, it’s clear that the intense lyrics are about someone intentionally jeopardizing themselves. This song has the most engaging and colorful lyrics than any other Beulah song. When I listen to this song, I follow along with the lyrics because they are an entirely different experience.

                                                Wipe those prints and run

Wipe those prints and run is probably the best song to listen to for an escape. Other songs can’t compare to it because of its slow unique rhythm and catchy tune. What I love most about this one is the message about freedom. A lot of Beulah songs are about love or relationship experiences or trauma, but this song’s message is about taking back freedom or escaping something that steals freedom. For a while, I thought it was about fleeing from the law or trying to avoid karma because it describes someone running from a crime scene. But as I listened to it more and understood the underlying meaning, the core message is about freedom and the consequences if you don’t fight for it. This is an amazing song to listen to if you are looking for a song with poetic lyrics and a good message.

Perks of Being a Wallflower

Over Thanksgiving break, I decided to finally watch Perks of Being a Wallflower. This movie was recommended to me by so many people and I just never got to watching it. So, when I did, I realized why they were recommending me this movie.

This movie centers around a freshman named Charlie. He goes into high school thinking he is going to hate it, but then soon finds out how fun it can be. He makes a bunch of new senior friends who take him on all kinds of fun adventures, and he becomes way happier than he was before. When he makes a mistake and gets abandoned by his friends, he starts going into a darker and darker place. Eventually, they all make up and things seem to get a lot better. But, when they all leave for college, he goes right back to that dark place, deeper than before. So deep he has to get help for it. But the help really works, and he is able to get out of it and make the most out of his life. Throughout this movie, he struggles with things from his past. These things have way deeper meanings, and that is seen as the movie progresses.

This movie was based on a book of the same name. After watching, I got the book and started to see the similarities and the differences between the two. So far, they are pretty similar story-wise. A few things were changed, but overall, they both are really beautiful stories and tell it great in their own ways.

This movie was probably the very first movie I’ve ever cried to. I don’t usually get emotional when watching movies, but this one really got me. The music in it was beautiful and it had really amazing scenes. It really encapsulates the “young and stupid teens” experience. Many of the things in the movie are really relatable and had me feeling a connection with the movie.

This movie will continue to be one of my favorite movies ever now. I don’t think anything can surpass it and if you think there is something that can, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! But, if you have not watched this movie, I really recommend you do so. Your life will be changed after. Also read the book. I’m not done with it yet, but I can’t wait to continue reading because I am hooked.

The amazing Amanda Palmer

Amanda palmer is one of my favorite artists at this time in my life. I used to listen to her but not like how I do now. A lot of you may have even heard her before without knowing that it was her! Here I will be naming some things she has done and talk about my favorite songs from them.

Amanda Palmer Begins Paying ‘Crowd-Sourced’ Musicians

  1. Dresden Dolls

The Dresden Dolls - The Dresden Dolls Photo (8398989) - Fanpop

The Dresden dolls were formed in 2000. With, of course, Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione. The two played at Halloween party together and formed the duo afterwards. Amanda did the vocals and piano, along with ukelele and a harmonica while Brian played the drums, bass, and guitar. The group was inspired by Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper, and Laurie Anderson. One of their most popular songs is “My Alcoholic friends” and “Coin-operated boy” My favorite song by the duo is “Missed Me” (go listen to it.) The duo broke up in 2008 but continued to have reunions.

2. Evelyn Evelyn

Evelyn Evelyn: A Tragic Tale In Two Tomes by Amanda Palmer | NOOK Book ...

This duo was made in 2007. While on tour Amanda and her friend Jason Webley found these girls on myspace, they were made by the Neville sisters. The two listened to the one song they had posted and fell in love with the song and the two conjoined twins, Eva and Lyn. They asked them if they wanted to record a song, and the creators agreed. They recorded multiple demos before it was actually released in 2010.  The most popular songs are “A Campaign of Shock and Awe” and “Have you seen my sister Evelyn?”. My favorite song from this is “Sandy Fishnets”!

3. Amanda Palmer (Solo)

Listen to Amanda Palmer speak to a troll who sent her abuse online

In my final category I will be talking a little bit about her solo account. Amanda went solo in June of 2008. The exact month I was born! Her first solo album was “Who killed Amanda Palmer”.  Unfortunately, I’m still getting into her solo music so I can’t speak too much about it. But! My favorite song that she has is “Runs in the Family”. Her music is amazing and the way she sings always hypnotizes me and I think everyone who reads this should give these songs a listen!!

Richie Rambles: My Hero Academia

In this first installment of this new series, I (Richie) am going to be rambling about My Hero Academia. Back in 2018, when MHA first started coming out, I was introduced to the manga. I believe this was my first introduction to manga and one of my first interactions with anime as a whole. My memory of back then is very blurry, so I’m not sure how I found out about it but I’m sure it was the internet. I’ve always been a big nerd. 2018 was the same year that the new generation of Voltron was coming to an end, so my nerdy 11 year old self needed a new thing to fixate on. MHA it was! I was also learning about Homestuck around this time, but that’s a conversation for another day.

Anyways, I don’t remember much about how I originally felt about MHA. I know it was a big deal; it was something I was passionate about for years despite the fact I never actually watched the anime (I read the manga… not sure how well I kept up though). I was heavily involved in fandom spaces online. I was able to log back into my middle school Wattpad account last year and I found a bunch of MHA fanfics… Maybe I’ll revise some and publish them here in the future. MHA also got me much more involved in cosplay. Voltron was definitely my cosplay journey beginning, but I had never met another cosplayer in real life until I joined the MHA fandom. A couple of my longest friends are people I met through the MHA cosplay fandom, actually.

Long story short, MHA was really important to me for a long while. Then, I’m not sure exactly when this happened, but I found a new interest and I went through that period where I thought that everything I enjoyed in middle school was cringe and lame and I didn’t like it anymore. After about two years of a really bad depressive episode, I realized I actually enjoyed being cringe and I wanted to re-introduce myself to all the interests I abandoned for those two years. I started with cosplay and shows like Monster High and My Little Pony. I started watching new anime and reading new manga that my friends recommended. I felt like myself for the first time in a while.

The past few months, I’ve been rediscovering my (early) middle school interests. It started with tracking down 5-6 year old musically cosplay compilations on youtube and eventually I began rewatching Voltron. Then, last month, I heard that MHA was finally coming to an end. I had seen some leaked panels from the manga circulating online and I found myself slipping back into the fandom space. I realized how much the fandom had changed over the years, and how much I had missed it. I also remember that Netflix had added the first four seasons of MHA to their streaming service. Since I had never watched the anime, I really wanted to watch it from start to finish, in preparation for the end of the series. I have a really bad attention span though, and I knew the only way to keep my focus would be if I watched it with my family. I gave a brief description to my family, and they agreed!

So far, we’ve just about finished the first two seasons. Everyone loves it so far. My dad’s favorite character is Present Mic, and he loves quoting All Might’s “I AM HERE” at any random time in the day. My mom relates to Aizawa and All Might (when he’s in his weak form). My sibling loves Tsuyu and they agreed to cosplay from MHA with me for an upcoming convention! We also have been playing the MHA card game as a family and it’s a very fun game. We’ve actually owned it for years (probably since 2018) but we’d never played it before. I highly recommend it to anyone who’s curious!

Anyways, that is all for today! Oh, for anyone curious, Kirishima is my favorite character!

Life is Strange

Over the summer, I did not have much to do. Being a teenager with no car and parents who work all day does not offer a thriving summer social life. So, like any teenager, I spent my time playing video games and watching TV. Two of my favorite games to play over the summer were Life is Strange, and Life is Strange: True Colors.

Life is Strange

Life is Strange began in January 2015, when Dontnod Entertainment released the first part of the game. Life is Strange was released in episodic form, spanning five releases. The story follows a girl named Max Caulfield who, during an altercation between two other characters, finds that she has gained the ability to rewind time. She goes on to use these powers to keep a girl from being shot via a fire alarm pressed at just the right time. Max realizes that the girl is her childhood best friend, Chloe, who she left behind when she moved to Seattle. In the following days, many irregular environmental phenomena and the recent disappearance of a local girl lead Max and Chloe to begin investigating both. I won’t spoil too much about the game though so that you will be able to play it through on your own! This game had so many good twists and turns that I just couldn’t get enough. My next blog will be about the fourth game in this series, Life is Strange: True Colors.

Much love!

The Radiated Zone Part Four

Day 78- Well, I found something alright just nothing to do remotely with a cure. I can tell you though Macy was lying to the whole crew about her rare food illnesses which made her throw up every day. Her “rare” illness was Rob’s baby which is a lot to unpack and why she would write about her work affair details in a work computers file baffles me. I honestly could care less about what they were up to now. I’m just pissed that I learned what goes down while I’m sleeping and that I’m no step closer to finding this dumb cure.

Day 80- I finally found an entry that didn’t look like a middle schooler’s attempt at writing work safe contraband! It seems like I need to mix two different compounds together to subdue the radiations affects. The only problem is this has only been performed on inanimate objects. I’ve seen Macy pour these “cures” over things ranging from dolls to spoons. During all these tests the objects start to bend and contort I can’t imagine my friend moving in those ungodly ways and let alone the agony it would put them through. I have decided I will go out and collect more samples. I feel bad but I need to find something infected with radiation and living I think wildlife is the safest choice for now.

Day 80- Do you know how damn hard it is to catch a squirrel? Well, the answer is very it is very hard especially one that is mutated with radiation I swear it made it faster than a normal one. Today though I caught three which I hope are enough for the tests I’m going to have to carry out. I feel awful harming these animals but honestly, I’m sure maybe curing them is a better shot than the pain they are currently in. Half of them look more like naked mole rats than squirrels from all the poisoning they have in their system currently. Honestly, I’m sure maybe curing them is a better shot than the pain they are currently in. Half of them look more like naked mole rats than squirrels from all the poisoning they have in their system currently. Tonight, though I’ll let them rest I’m sure they are terrified of me already based on how bad I was at capturing them and how much I was cussing while doing so.

Day 82- Ok so the first trial did not go as planned I tried to give the squirrel some medicine to calm it down since the little guy was shaking and foaming at the mouth. Instead, though it seemed to do the exact opposite, and he started growling? I didn’t know squirrels could do that or make such noises, but it scared me, and I promptly put Fred back in his cage!
