The Phrase “I’m Not Like Other Girls” is Rooted in Internalized Misogyny

We all knew that girl in high school who always had to tear others down to build herself up, and if you didn’t, you caught a beyond lucky break. Whether it was the classic shaming of where you bought your clothes or having your face and body scrutinized in a private DM on Instagram, we’ve all met at least one person in our lives who could not gain confidence through their own personal merits. This trope is everywhere in teen movies, usually written in as an easy antagonist, but it’s always the pink-wearing preppy girl with a caramel latte in her hand.

What is less talked about is a trend that peaked in the early-2010s: young girls who also needed to bring down others to lift themselves up, but in a much less direct way. If you’ve been on the internet for long enough, you’ve probably seen one or two “I’m not like other girls” around the internet, most likely either as a comic or a text post. The girls who post this phrase pride themselves on their “individuality” the most, and while this isn’t an inherently bad thing, it comes with an extra layer of internalized misogyny by putting down the “other girls.” These “other girls” are usually portrayed as feminine, positive, concerned about their appearance, and sexually active. The poster is usually portrayed as a “tomboy” who places little value in their appearance, reads books, and dislikes stereotypically feminine things.

An example of a popular
An example of a popular “I’m not like other girls” illustration. It depicts the “other girls” as dumb, “slutty” carbon-copies of each other. The “error” is a smart, modestly clothed girl who stands out among the rest of the women.

Now, this brings about the question of why this is a problem and how it became to be this way. The quick answer? Internalized misogyny. These feminine traits are viewed in a negative light by much of society including these types of girls. More masculine traits are seen as better, and the stereotype of women being stupid and vain shine through in obvious ways. This mindset stems from the dislike of being wrapped up in this stereotype and the pride felt by breaking the nonexistent “standard” of being a girl. “I’m not like other girls! I’m smart and I have an actual personality!” If you were a girl who grew up in the early 2000s, you know this type of message was in almost every bit of media you could consume. “You Belong With Me” by Talyor Swift and High School Musical are some of the first things that come to mind when I think of my elementary school days. Girls who were insecure about not fitting the “feminine look” were comforted by these and quickly began to develop a complex. I know I did.

In recent years, this trend has slowed down drastically. In fact, there has been a rise of parody comics based off of it. People have come to realize the problematic nature and the negative effect it has on the minds of young girls (and even some women.) One of my favorite of these, although it’s not exactly a parody, is a series by Julie Hang. In an interview with Bored Panda, she goes into detail about her past struggles with this mindset along with her art, which you can view and read here.

“I was a shy, anxious kid, and had a hard time making friends. Instead of recognizing my anxiety and trying to overcome it, I’d thought I’m just not like the other girls. Reading ‘me vs. other girls’ comics online validated those negative feelings and stereotypes I had towards other girls, and made me feel like judging others was the ‘cool’ thing to do.”

““When you’re young and still trying to figure out who you are, the one thing you really want to have is individuality. There are lots of healthy ways to discover yourself, like joining a club where you can meet people with similar interests. Then there is the ‘I’m not like other girls’ comic ideas online that communicates that you are indeed unique but does so by putting other girls down.”

rationality, and why you should never clown your literate friends

preface: if my friend finds this, i will simply ✨pass away✨, because i have spent the last 6 months clowning him for being so passionate about this book. and i refuse to admit that i’m in love with it (the book, not the friend).

rationality from ai to zombies is a series of books (each composed of articles) that outline what it means to think rationally, how to do it, and why it matters.

the first book (and, admittedly, the only one i’ve read thus far) is called map and territory, and this blog post will be all about that metaphor.

from the moment we enter schooling age, we’re shown pictures of the world – galaxies, our solar system, planets, stars, moons, the earth, different continents and countries and other known territories that have been neatly mapped out for us on a 2-dimensional plane. we can see… everything. or can we?

that is a world map, right? great.

can you find iceland? or madagascar? or sri lanka, norway, mongolia?

you can’t. they’re simply not there, nowhere on the map to be found, so they must not exist. at least, that’s what most people have been conditioned to think.

map and territory combats this idea, pointing out that just because something isn’t perceived doesn’t mean it’s not there. we have a warped mental image of what we have been told, and through rational thinking and processes, we have to come to a conclusion that combines both what we know for a fact and what we have been told.

the idea of map-to-territory correspondence is quite important when applied to the real world – we have to match what we believe to what is true.

short blog, i know, but eleizer yudkowsky goes way more in depth to rationality in his book, that i think everyone should at least skim in their free minutes. worth the read 🙂

The Value of Revision

Recently, I produced a second draft of a piece titled “Butterflies on the Delphinium.” It evolved from a 1,000 word flash fiction to a seven page short story, and in the new version, I didn’t even include the conversation the first draft is centered around. Before I moved to MSA, I rarely revised my work; After I finished the first draft of any piece, I typically reread it, decided I hate it, then sent it to the void that is Google Docs’ trash folder. However, since we started workshopping our assignments in class, I’ve had a change of heart. I get really excited whenever I have an opportunity to get feedback on my work, and I take the opinions of my peers and instructor into account instead of stubbornly brushing them off like I would have six months ago. I wanted to compare excerpts that include what I feel is the best descriptive language in the individual piece and let you see for yourself just how beneficial workshops and revision can be.

Draft One: She delicately tucked a piece of blonde hair behind her ear before flattening the backside of her dress and lowering herself into the seat opposite of the waitress. She ran her thumb along the underside of her purse strap and removed it from her shoulder. She hovered it over several different spots on the table and the floor, but chose to leave it resting in her lap. Her fingers involuntarily began to fiddle with the tassel attached to the purse’s zipper as she produced another strained smile.

Draft Two: The glowing midday sun slowly sank, painting the once electric blue sky with strokes of crimson and patches of warm orange. The change in lighting made Gwen realize she had been walking in circles for the past three hours, pacing around an unfamiliar neighborhood; she did not notice the dull ache in her feet until she finally stopped moving. Her manicured nails were chipped as a result of her anxiously picking at them, and dark polish flakes now covered the frontside of her light blue sheath dress. A dreadful wave of embarrassment washed over her, and she began to hurriedly swipe her hand against the cotton material of her dress, trying to brush away the small, thin pieces. As they floated down to the earth, Gwen noticed a sharp sting coming from the underside of her right thumb; she turned it over to reveal the irritated beginnings of a painful blister. She grimaced as she turned her head slightly to examine the underside of the long, leather strap of her white shoulder purse. The inexpensive material had not been damaged, thankfully, and tried to make a mental note to encourage herself to cease the habit, but she knew she was unlikely to find the willpower to do so any time soon.

Trying a K-Pop Diet

Hey! >.< Here I am once again, and for this week I thought it’d be fun to try a K-pop diet. Now, for those who may not know, K-pop diets are diets curated by different IDOLS in the industry and what they follow to get (or stay) slim. These are very restrictive almost all the time and can be tough to get through. So I thought why not? We love self punishment on this blog! ♥

There are many different types but I am going to be following one by JENNIE from BLACKPINK. *insert cheers* Picture for reference…

Also, I can not tell you to not try this diet because that is exactly what I did. Please keep in mind however that trying this diet for a prolonged time can really mess up your metabolism and digestive system. Be safe 🙂

I love JENNIE and Halloween was coming up, so I thought why not try to become a skinny legend for my costume like my queen? Then, I started it…

Well, the diet focuses on reducing general bloating and detoxing the stomach. Real good stuff ya know? The meals kind of have some wiggle room, but a main factor is to have no sodium. (So like no salt) An avocado salad has to be included and a lot of teas good for detoxing. (I used green tea) and TONS of water.

Besides food and drink, the diet also consists of needing to work out a LOT. K pop stars dance and rehearse for more than 10 hours a day most of the time. To try and measure up to that I did some of BLACKPINK’S dance practice videos and gurl…when I tell you…they are difficult. My little two step didn’t get me nearly enough body comprehension for those.

Anyways, I started to journal my emotions in real time, so I could deliver the most raw and authentic feelings. I forgot to do the first morning cause i didn’t come up with the idea to journal until later…*bad blogger check* 😛

So yeah. I had a lot of water for breakfast and then lunch was the avocado salad. I actually stayed feeling full and drank my green tea and water consistently. Pretty okay, and the workouts were so so so much more fun than I thought.

Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad.

10-27-20 Tuesday ( 화요일 )

9:57 I’m feeling rough. I got some chicken to eat with sticky white rice but          they got me gal. The chicken I got had broth and sea salt frozen with it.          ≥≤ I keep wanting to add extra ANYTHING to “make-up” for the chicken.

For dinner, I’m eating finely chopped yellow onions, carrots, celery, and         half a bowl of rice. No seasonings, more water.

I keep getting grouchy, and I know it’s the hungry brain. This is gonna be       a long three days.

10:10 I literally got up to get water because my cup was low, and my food           was ready, right? Then next thing I know I’m stopping my desperate               hand from grabbing something inside a fridge I didn’t even remember           opening-

10:29 SO…I was only able to eat half of the bowl. My stomach feels so full,           and it feels like it has doubled in size..  ¿what?

10:44 Oop, I literally spaced out and never finished what I was writing. I             toats forgot what I was doing. Maybe green tea will help?

10-28-20 Wednesday ( 수요일 )

12:05 SO I had my leftovers, and it was so filling! I can’t wait to go home             and dance some more for my workout though. It was so fun trying to             follow BLACKPINK’S dance practice videos. Don’t be shy…

🙂
3:17 Oh my GOD. I want coffee so bad! My stomach was just a rumbling ,            making all this racket, but all I want is an iced coffee. Still pumped for            the workouts, but that could change real quick Mary. Realll quick…

4:45 SO I’m just dancing my little gay heart out right? Next thing I know, I          distinctly smell mandarin chicken. Where did it come from? I’m in my            living room!

5:30 Well…I did something I told myself I wouldn’t…I compared my before        picture to now- *looks away shamefully* I just swear to God I feel as              though my stomach is getting bigger because it keeps looking that way to      me. I don’t want this to be for nothing either though! Lord no…

    🙂 I saw progress though ♥

10-29-20 Thursday ( 목요일 )

3:54 HOLY GUACAMOLE! I made it to day three. Final day. I haven’t stopped      thinking about food for three days straight. I just ate a piece of ham. Did        it have sodium? maybe. Do I care? Gurl no! I’m happy and tired as bleep.

5:40 Alright. That’s enough. I’m done. I know I still had supper to go, but I          am miserable. I gotta watch myself though! Once I said I was done , one        piece of ham from earlier almost turned into two, and then I almost ate          leftover pizza, chips, Cheez-Itz®, and basically everything and anything        else I saw.

The results did reduce a good bit of bloating and water weight. But no.          No no no. I wouldn’t do this again. Well? 😛 … NAhhh. Yes, my physique          slimmed but not nearly enough to compensate for how miserable I was.        Honestly, the working out helped so much which I already did just not as      consistently as these three days.

The emotional mind state that this diet put me in was not even, like I              didn’t, it was crazy. Like it wasn’t until it was over that I realized how              unhappy, tired, and miserable I was. This really gave me perspective on        how much food can alter like, somebody’s mood. It’s so bizarre really.

If I were to take away anything from this diet, it would be the working            out more and drinking more water. I might try and lower my salt intake?      Gurl I don’t know.

Again, I can’t tell you not to try it cause I did. But good luck, have fun, and     be free. ♥

Slenderman: The Internet Urban Legend That Scared Me Like No Other

Before I begin, I would like to give a warning. This post will include descriptions of attempted murder and slightly disturbing images. If you don’t think you’ll be able to handle this week’s post, feel free to click off now. I won’t judge you, I promise. 🙂

When you hear the word “creepypasta,” what comes to mind? If you weren’t active on the internet in the early 2010s, you might think of a Halloween recipe a quirky middle-aged mom might make from Pinterest or maybe a mispronunciation of a new monstrosity called “crispy pasta” that probably emerged from the mid-south. However, if you were an internet kid like me, I know you’d recognize it instantly.

Creepypasta is defined by Urban Dictionary as “Essentially internet horror stories or myths passed around other sites to frighten readers and viewers. The word “creepypasta” comes from the term “copypasta,” an internet slang term for a block of text that gets copied and pasted from website to website. Creepypastas are sometimes are supplemented with pictures, audio, or video footage related to the story, typically with gory, distorted or, otherwise, shocking content.” So, in a nutshell, a creepypasta is just a horror version of a copypasta, and the latter half of the word isn’t a reference to the popular Italian dish; it’s a play on the copy-and-paste aspect of the stories. Another thing creepypastas are known for is being, well, pretty bad. Sure, there are some outliers like Ben Drowned and the SCP Series, but most popular stories are well known for their sub-par storytelling and generic tropes. However, there is one story in particular that scared me senseless as a kid, and still fascinates me to this day.

The Slenderman is one of the most, if not THE most, recognizable legends on the internet. The creature first emerged from a 2009 photoshop contest on the Something Awful forums online.

The caption under the image read:

We didn’t want to go, we didn’t want to kill them, but its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us at the same time…

The second submission is just as popular.

The caption under this image read:

One of two recovered photographs from the Stirling City Library blaze. Notable for being taken the day which fourteen children vanished and for what is referred to as “The Slender Man”. Deformities cited as film defects by officials. Fire at library occurred one week later. Actual photograph confiscated as evidence.

These images sparked inspiration in the minds of internet users everywhere. Stories and fan-art were created and spread all over the place. These stories built the lore of Slenderman, and soon there wasn’t just one creator of Slenderman, but rather the internet culture as a whole came together to create their own personal boogeyman. In 2012, Slenderman was adapted into a video game titled Slender: The Eight Pages. Within its first month of release, the game was downloaded over 2 million times, which, at the time, was an exponential amount. Popular YouTubers played the game as well, which thrust it into an even bigger spotlight and exposed the game to a young audience. Because of its popularity, more games were made, and the lore of Slenderman grew larger very quickly.

The Creepypasta fandom hit its peak around 2013/2014, and the only way I could properly describe it would be.. unexpected. The main audience for these stories were surprisingly preteens and young teenagers, despite the gory and disturbing nature of the tales. The thing is, these kids weren’t necessarily fans of the stories themselves, but rather cutesy-fied versions of the antagonists in them. I could go into this more, but this is not the main point of this blog. It’s actually a pretty interesting topic, so maybe in another post.

What is important, though, is the fact that I was (sigh) one of these preteens who were obsessed with these caricatures of these scary teen villains. I wasn’t just interested in these versions, though. I also really liked reading the original stories and writing my own. I hate to say that part of my passion for literature was spawned by creepypasta, but it’s the truth. The Creepypasta Wiki was a go-to for me and was my ideal website to visit when I was bored other than YouTube or Wattpad. (Yes, I was one of those kids) But, anyway, the ones that I enjoyed the most were the many versions and additions of the Slenderman lore. For a time, I genuinely believed he was real, and, like the title says, it scared me to death. I was around 10 in 2014, and that’s when I was really into all this. I lived in the middle of the woods, and I would avoid looking outside out of fear of seeing Slenderman. This was mainly because one of the versions of the “slender” story had something called “slender sickness,” which you would catch just by looking at him. It would drive you into paranoia and madness,  eventually killing you. This was made popular by the indie online video series Marble Hornets, which I actually very highly recommend if you’re into creative found footage horror or ARGs.

(This is a “movie” made by compiling together all the clips and episodes of the original series. It’s a bit easier to keep up with, but I recommend checking out the original YouTube channel for a more authentic feel.)

I would cry whenever I had to go into the woods or wasn’t allowed to close my blinds. I got scared whenever my technology would mess up because that was another “sign that Slender was near.” Looking back now, it’s a pretty funny memory, but at the time, nothing was more terrifying.

Things came to a screeching halt in the community when on May 31, 2014, two 12-year-old girls from Wisconsin lured their friend Payton Leutner into the woods and stabbed her 19 times in an attempt to prove the fictional character Slender Man was real and to become his “proxies,” another term that stemmed from the Marble Hornets series. Payton miraculously survived, but it raised a moral dilemma in regard to the creation and sharing of stories involving the character. This was one of the wake-up calls for me as a kid, and I quickly was brought back into reality when this all went down. Both girls were sentenced to 25-40 years in mental institutions, and the Creepypasta Wiki was banned in many school districts across the country. Eric Knudsen responded to this by saying: “I am deeply saddened by the tragedy in Wisconsin, and my heart goes out to the families of those affected by this terrible act,” and the admins of the Creepypasta Wiki along with many prominent creators in the community came together to raise money for Payton and her family. Still, the character of Slenderman began to fade away from the internet space during this time. I became uninterested in the community soon after as well, and I stopped being involved for many years.

Since then, mainstream movies, book series, and more games have been created based off of the internet legend. However, they lack the rawness and internet charm that the story had. The changing nature of the story was like no other, and it still fascinates me to this day. I can’t properly express how famous and influential this character was in internet culture, but since Halloween was just around the corner, I thought why not revisit this childhood monster of mine.

BLACKPINK- A Reason to Live ♥

Hey!   >_<   This is a blog explaining some of the girls who keep me living. Without these girls, I am not sure I would be writing this blog right now. The iconic, record setting/breaking K-pop group, BLACKPINK!                *insert global BLINKS screaming* (BLINKS is what the fans are called btw)

BLACKPINK! ↑

There are four members to the world-wide sensation: Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé

To begin, there is Lisa. Real name: Lalisa Manoban. She is the youngest of the group at twenty-three-years-old. Originally from Thailand, Lisa has a personality that can be described as cute, intimidating, and a little edgy. She is always making jokes though and raising morale of the whole group. Her main role in the group is being a rapper, but her dancing is by far the best of the group.

From an early age, my girl Lisa was in dancing competitions, snatching all the trophies. This was girl is a bad bleep! Periodt. It wasn’t until a talent agent noticed her at one competition and prompted her to audition for YG.

YG is a HUGE K-Pop industry company. They actually are also the same label to produce the popular “Gangnam Style.”

So, she did audition.

Jennie. Oh, Jennie.

Jennie is twenty-four-years-old. She brings her vocals to the group. She grew up in South Korea, but then at the age of five she went to study in New Zealand at a school there. It was hard for her to be there alone, but she had a lot of freedom to do what she liked, including, but not limited to, music. This is where she realized her love for the art, and when YG came to New Zealand, she auditioned. I think you can guess how it went. 😉

Her vocals isn’t all she is known for however. One of her nicknames is actually the “Human Chanel.” Her fashion is always, *big jealous sigh* the best. ;-;

Rosé! Y’all this girl has THE pipes! Twenty-three-years-old and New Zealand born, Rosé is the main vocalist of the group. She spends hours in the recording studio or just practicing by her lonesome self and a guitar. Her sleeping trouble leaves her work ethic to seem and never stop. It is more than impressive.

Jumping back to her birthplace, this makes her know the most fluent English speaker of the group. A lot of the BLINKS will ask her to talk on Instagram Live Streams just to hear her Australian accent. It’s so kawaii! “.”

Lastly, there is Jisoo. Jisoo is another vocalist, and the oldest of the group.

Also, the members of the group call her Unnie, not really Jisoo. It is a cultural custom because she is an older friend. It’s almost more endearing and refers to her as a family figure.

She is twenty-five-years-old, and born and raised in South Korea. (She struggles the most with her English, but we love her anyways! ♥ ) Jisoo is the sweetest of them all, but also the most mischievous. She loves her milks, too! Banana, Strawberry, and many more! She is the big sister anyone would want, and they way she is always taking care of the other members is just precious. For example, when most of the group gets emotional at a concert she will try and continue for them or sing their parts as well. (And I mean like emotional over the fans and love) She is always checking in on everyone, and we just love her!

Also, just look at how gorgeous she looks.

There is so much to say and try and explain to one about these IDOLS. They just help me find the confidence to keep going and persevere through the tough. Everything they go through, and still perform and deliver with such excellence should be motivation enough for anyone. Please go love and support this amazing group! Maybe just check out a music video or two…who knows? You might just fall in love.

This video is titled “Kill This Love” and was one of their biggest hits. It definitely had the crowd ROARING when they performed at the music festival, Coachella. ♥

This video is tiled “Lovesick Girls” and is a more recent release from their new album. It does not quite have the edge of their previous hits, but still has me captivated! ♥

For more information on the legends who we should feel honored each day to breathe the same air, this is a link now of the trailer to their new movie, Light Up the Sky. It goes into more detail about the group members history individually and united. Available now on Netflix! ♥

This last link is for one of my personal favorite songs because it is a collaboration with my Queen and the woman who awakened the gay in me, Lady Gaga. The track is titled, “Sour Candy.” It has edge and is bold. It is unique.

Okay, okay! I could keep linking recommended content of BLACKPINK’s for hours because there is not a single track I do not use to keep me sane, alive, happy. BLACKPINK are not just four girls, they are life.

Let’s Talk About…Companies Using Pride for Profit

About two weeks ago, Oreo launched a campaign to celebrate LGBTQ+ families; in collaboration with PFLAG National, the first and largest organization for individuals and families who are a part of the community, the company produced pride-themed cookies and announced that they will only be gifting them to those who “perform acts of allyship for the LGBTQ+ community.” On National Coming Out Day, October 11th, Oreo’s brand twitter posted pictures of their cookies with different colored fillings that match the color of certain pride flags, transgender, pansexual, bisexual, and lesbian. Not everyone was pleased with this, initially branding the cookies as a “rainbow capitalism moment” (as stated by PinkNews), but the community’s perception of them shifted once the company specified its intent with the product and clarified that they would not be selling them.

Unlike many companies, Oreo is honoring LGBTQ+  people, their family, and their histories; the company even released a short film called Proud Parent, that promoted the importance of allyship and creating a more accepting world. “Pride for Profit” is a term used to describe companies using promotional ads and pride-themed products to further the success of their brand during holidays that celebrate LGBTQ+ people. During pride month especially, companies will do the bare minimum to show support for the community by doing insignificant things like changing the logos in their profile pictures on social media to rainbow colors or releasing a line of pride merchandise. This would not be such an issue if these things actually benefited the community and raised awareness for the issues it faces; the majority of brands do not even donate a portion of their sales on pride products to LGBTQ+ charities.

According to the various sources cited on a Yahoo! Finance article, only 64% of these brands are donating to relevant LGBTQ+ charities, meaning that every 2 in 5 of these companies are not. The website also states that 12% of companies with Pride campaigns in 2019 were rated under 80% by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for their equality policies. HRC says, “The majority fail to provide equal domestic partner medical and soft benefits for LGBT+ people, and show a lack of equal health coverage for individuals without exclusion for medically necessary care.” Companies like H&M only have a Corporate Equality Index Score of 45% despite having produced a collection of pride products.

Companies that do not even provide their employees who are a part of the community with a safe work environment are being praised for selling pride-related merchandise. It is not enough to support LGBTQ+ people one month of the year; these companies should be expected to constantly work towards making the world a more loving, accepting place. The struggles of people with these identities are not things to be used as fuel for corporate greed; the sacrifices people in the community have made deserve to be acknowledged and the members deserve to be validated and celebrated.

Fragile Foundations

I was originally going to write this blog, with this title, about the foundations in which a friendship is built upon – about how you have to love and support one another, through the good times and bad. In since times, though, I’ve noticed another fragile foundation: America’s.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was by no means an angel: she voted against rights of prisoners, called Colin Kaepernick “really dumb” for peacefully protesting on the football field, and struck down judgements that swayed in favor of indigenous people in America.

Despite her neoliberal ideology and… less than consistent viewpoints, she had one dying wish, and that was to not be replaced until a new presidential term. While that wish may sound a bit unconventional, it’s not a new concept.

In February 2016, republican justice Antonin Scalia died of natural causes. senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, took up authority, stating that any supreme court justice appointed (by democratic president Barack Obama) in Scalia’s place would have to wait until after the coming election. That seemed fair – it was the end of Obama’s 8-year term, and there seemingly wasn’t enough time to make a well thought out decision.

However, when justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died just a month and a half before the coming election, Mitch McConnell was more than happy to impose a heinously hypocritical view: that it is absolutely okay for president Trump to appoint a new (presumably republican) justice. Again, just a month and a half before the president could very well be voted out.

Because supreme court justices do not have term limits, their placements could mean much more harm for the country than a presidential candidacy. and in this case, it does.

Amy Coney Barrett is a threat to Roe v Wade, LGBTQ+ rights, and civil liberties in the united states. Mitch McConnell’s blatant hypocrisy will move America backwards. There is no use having more women in power if those very same women will take away the rights of their own.

Why Feminism Needs to Exist, and no it’s not Sexist

TW: Rape

It’s really sad that I feel the need to explain what feminism is– it’s 2020 guys. We just recently had a race movement, and I really feel we need a gender equality movement, too.  I follow a feminism page on Instagram and, I swear, the pressed men must have their post notifications turned on.

The comments include things like “Get back in the kitchen.”, “Men invented x, if they didn’t, she wouldn’t be able to open her big mouth.”, “Feminism is sexism”, and the grossest one of all “If a woman gets raped she wanted it”

Is your IQ in the negative numbers?  Do you even understand the definitions of the words you are using? It all makes me want to go into a primal rage.

Feminism- the movement of wanting equality between the genders for women.

How is wanting equality sexist?  It isn’t. (You just like having power over us as a man.)

Rape- the act of forcing someone into sexual intercourse

How can rape be wanted? It legit cannot be. You cannot prevent it, if it is forced upon the person.

I really don’t understand why people insist on keeping women oppressed. It is honestly the worst kind of oppression, in my opinion.

Honestly, I’ve experienced first hand being treated badly by men, as if I am disposable. Believe it or not, it happened this weekend.  I had an encounter with a guy friend who gave me an ultimatum. It led to him asking, “Would you rather end things now or be upset when I cheat on you?”  Like, why is that the only option?  Can’t you just be a freaking loyal person?  Guys treat us like toys and when they get bored they toss us in the trash.  They should be taught to treat girls with respect and equality. I am not a toy. I am not disposable. I am a living, breathing person with feelings.  Women have emotions, we just want to be cared for and treated with respect, is it really that much to ask for?

And might I add: We don’t even really need men anymore. Scientists have found ways for females to reproduce using bone marrow. Bone marrow! So no, we are not inferior. We should be equals.
