Why Cyborg Belongs in the Doom Patrol.

IT’S ME AGAIN.

I’m back with another DCU rant. (▰˘◡˘▰)

Today I am here to state my scary opinion and defend it.

Cyborg has always been a confusing character in the DCU. He never particularly fit in on any team, and that has been a running problem with his character. Lets count…the Justice League, then the Teen Titans, the Outsiders, and he even participated in other smaller groups.

You may ask, “Why does he not fit in? Is there anywhere that’s best for him?” Well I can tell you.

WHY NOT THE JUSTICE LEAGUE? (-_- )ノ

This answer is actually relatively simple; he simply isn’t needed. Cyborg is well… a CYBORG his powers are primarily tech based, which due to Batman’s extensive riches and technological access he isn’t needed in that aspect. Then you could argue his strength but…Superman is RIGHT there…so yeah that’s not a fit. Onto my next point, He is simply too young, which is going to hypocritical when i get to the teen titans but just hold my hand and trust me. All those justice league members? Yeah, they’re UNC and just aren’t able to relate to him well or get his humor which is a decent part of his character.

WHY NOT THE TEEN TITANS? (ᇂ_ᇂ)

Okay I’m sure you already think I’m crazy just from the idea, but you just got to hear me out. Now he’s too OLD for the team. He is indeed still a teen yes, but he is often portrayed a few years older than the other titans, which I’ve noticed he seems to take on a certain “babysitter” like role in a lot of situations. I find it hugely suppresses his character and often makes him gather a sort of resentment and lash out later.

WHATS THE HUGE PROBLEM IN BOTH? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Cyborg doesn’t fit anywhere because there is not a set of characters that understand what he has gone through and his trauma. The Justice League simply has no way to understand a total rewriting of physical autonomy; neither do I believe they really care. As such a big team they often lack the time to care about such things, and they’d probably just use him as ‘tech support’. Cyborgs’ biggest fear is to be seen only as the machine and not the human that he is, so yeah not the match for him.

Now the Teen Titans work much better in theory because they DO deeply care for each other. At the same time, they still can’t really understand. What happened to Cyborg was extremely traumatic and for those who don’t know I’ll tell you now, Cyborg grew up normally, he was a star athlete in high school, he had a strained family but a future. When his father misses his football game, he goes to the lab his father works at and proceeds to get mutilated in a lab disaster, for which his father then installs EXPIEREMENTAL and completely UNTESTED technology into Vic (Cyborg) with NO consent. So yeah, he just wakes up an ENTIRELY different person and little more than just his father’s experiment. Back on topic, I can see Cyborg way better in the Teen Titans and especially with Beast Boy. Beast Boy is like Cyborg in the way of being a physical appearance outcast, due to his…GREENness. The problem is he was turned into what he is when he was too young to have lived and entire life full of connections. There are no other titans that can understand that in any capacity. I would like to mention that Beast Boy before being a Titan was part of the Doom Patrol, which I bet is why he can most relate to Cyborg.

This is the part where i lead into where he belongs………..

WHY DOES CYBORG BELONG IN THE DOOM PATROL? (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ

First of all, almost the entire team has had their body permanently altered and leaving them to be seen as freaks,

Robotman had his entire body destroyed in a racecar crash; he’s literally just a brain in a robot. Negative Man had his entire body burned and turned radioactive in a plane crash, causing him to have to wrap himself in bandages (wow what a weirdo/j). Elasti-Girl inhaled a toxic volcanic gas and now turns into a literal blob when she’s nervous. There are other members, but I don’t want to keep yapping on. Anyways the real kicker is Their “caretaker”, Niles, was the creator of all their accidents and mutilations. He unconsentingly used the Doom Patrol as little more than experiments wink wink sound familiar?

Theres also room for an interesting dynamic with Robotman, they are extremely similar which SOME might call a problem but I see that as media illiteracy as they are VERY different characters. Cyborg still has feeling and Robotman doesn’t and dude Robotman can genuinely leave so much character development open for cyborg, Robotman can make Cyborg understand that he doesn’t need to prove he’s human and they can be like the silliest supporters of each other. Cyborg can also bring a modern tech role into the team. The doom patrol members are all….OLD and though modern in their humor, they are behind in technology….so Cyborg could bring that missing part to the team.

AHHH…ok, I’m done for now. Stay tuned for more DC controversial opinions and rants… ^Questions are welcomed^

A Short Negative Man and Nightwing Character Analysis.

A character analysis of my favorite DC heroes.

Negative man and Nightwing!!!!!!! this will be a mega yap.

Negative Man and Nightwing are two DC characters whose personalities are heavily shaped by the events of their lives and their relationships with others.  They have very different personalities and experiences, but both characters are still very empathetic and use their experiences to help the people around them. However, their empathy shows itself in very different ways. Negative Man struggles with self-worth and often has difficulty expressing his emotions, while Nightwing is naturally more open, compassionate, and focused on helping others, he still struggles with the idea of being a bother to others. Their actions are largely driven by their desire to understand where they comfortably belong and how they can protect the people they care about.

Negative Man, also known as Larry Trainor, is a complicated character. After a solo aircraft accident causes him to become bonded with the Negative Spirit (an irradiated alien), Larry loses the normal life he once had. His powers make him feel different from other people, and he sticks himself in isolation because of it. Larry views himself as damaged and dangerous; he can be pessimistic, and sometimes emotionally distant. His behavior is not necessarily caused by a lack of care. Instead, he often pushes people away because he believes that his problems WILL eventually hurt them. It’s truthfully sad because he wants connection but has difficulty believing that he deserves it.

Larry’s empathy comes from understanding what it feels like to be rejected and isolated. He knows what it is like to feel like an outsider (He literally has to be completely covered in bandages, or everyone dies); he can recognize the pain of other people who feel similarly misunderstood. Even when he is frustrated or bitter, he continues to care about the members of the Doom Patrol, even through their WEIRD actions. His willingness to risk himself for others reveals that his pessimistic personality does not mean he lacks compassion. In fact, his empathy is often the strongest of the doom patrol team when he sees someone else struggling. Larry’s actions are motivated by both his want to protect others and his need to prove that he still has a place in the world.

Nightwing, or Dick Grayson, has a much more outward expression of empathy. After losing his parents as a child in a circus accident, is taken in by Bruce Wayne (Batman) and becomes Robin. Batman gives him a purpose, but Dick eventually realizes that he does not want his entire identity to revolve around Batman as well as feeling he’s letting him down from growing older and not having as much time to help him. Therefore, he Becomes Nightwing which allows him to grow into his own person. His decision to leave the role of Robin is not a spite against Batman. It comes from his need for his understanding that becoming a hero should not require him to become exactly like his mentor, and that change is necessary.

Dick’s personality is generally optimistic, social, and intelligent (not TIM DRAKE intelligent though). Unlike Batman, who creates distance between himself and others, Nightwing actively builds relationships. His leadership of the Titans and his relationships with other members of the Bat-Family demonstrate how much he values teamwork and emotional connection. Dick understands that people need support, especially because he experienced the loss of his parents at such a young age (8-12), he understands the change just a little empathy can make. His empathy therefore influences many of his decisions. He does not simply want to defeat criminals; he wants to protect people and prevent others from experiencing the kind of pain that shaped him and the many others he knows.

The biggest difference between Negative Man and Nightwing is how they respond to their suffering. Negative Man tends to internalize trauma. He often believes that his differences make him a burden, which causes him to withdraw from others. Nightwing is almost the opposite. He uses his trauma as a reason to create stronger relationships and protect other people; Negative man does this to a degree with the doom patrol but it’s not the same. Both characters are capable of deep empathy and often express it in their own ways, but Nightwing expresses his more openly, while Larry’s empathy is often hidden beneath all his traumatized layers.

Thanks for listening to my ted talk. I had fun writing it because I just love these characters so much. I will probably write about them again sometime but no promises. If there’s and DC media, you recommend then comment it and I might make a review on it, also you can comment any questions or ask for watch suggestions because i have many…
