{"id":9638,"date":"2020-10-07T09:07:40","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T14:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/?p=9638"},"modified":"2020-10-07T09:08:02","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T14:08:02","slug":"the-joy-the-holiday-season-brings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/2020\/10\/07\/the-joy-the-holiday-season-brings\/","title":{"rendered":"The Joy the Holiday Season Brings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s frigid outside<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Like we were inside of a snow globe<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snow on the ground<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a winter wonderland<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0 sate our thirst on that sweet,<\/p>\n<p>chocolate nectar<\/p>\n<p>that<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> already fills our bodies,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating a cozy contentedness<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children shrieking gleefully,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ecstatic at the sight of their first snowfall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>They marvel at the crisp cotton-like flurries<\/p>\n<p>Coming down,<\/p>\n<p>as lightly as a million feathers atop their small heads<\/p>\n<p>Which are caressed by velvety wool caps<\/p>\n<p>Lovingly knitted by careful grandmothers<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Young lovers are gaily laughing under the mistletoe<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enjoying each others\u2019 presence<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Without a care for the troubles tomorrow may bring<\/p>\n<p>Indifferent to judgmental, wandering eyes<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grandparents lovingly nurturing their small grandchildren<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The warm smell of soft sweet gingerbread<\/p>\n<p>And old, clean leather nuzzling<\/p>\n<p>the itty-bitty children<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">People building gargantuan, frosty, affable snowmen<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Topped with an old beat-up top hat that&#8217;s been in one family for decades,<\/p>\n<p>Fresh picked crispy carrots from Old Man Grady&#8217;s farm,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Smoot covered coal, fetched from the railroad tracks<\/p>\n<p>Across the street from the Town Square<\/p>\n<p>And a scarf knitted in soft, bright colors<\/p>\n<p>Gifted by a little blonde pig-tailed girl\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Who was maybe three years old<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warm gingerbread men<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Baked by the kindest ladies you&#8217;re ever likely to meet<\/p>\n<p>They all get together at the town church<\/p>\n<p>And make Christmas food for everyone in the park<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carolers chiming like twinkly bells<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joyfully belting our favorite Christmas tunes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parents drinking eggnog,<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Conversing with each other while attentively watching their kids,<\/p>\n<p>Cheering their children on during every hockey game,<\/p>\n<p>Making sure no one gets hurt<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People dutifully fulfilling their loved ones holiday wishes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friends ice skating together,<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tripping over each others&#8217;
