{"id":4539,"date":"2018-10-24T10:02:38","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T15:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/?p=4539"},"modified":"2018-10-24T10:12:33","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T15:12:33","slug":"rain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/2018\/10\/24\/rain\/","title":{"rendered":"rain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a plant in the window,<\/p>\n<p>peering out at the world, curiously trying to piece things together.<\/p>\n<p>There hasn&#8217;t been much sunlight, lately &#8211; just rain.<\/p>\n<p>It pours all day and night, filling the pot until it spills over.<\/p>\n<p>The soil drowns and the plant just sighs.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s not much it can do at this point.<\/p>\n<p>There was a time before when the sun flooded through and covered everything inside like a blanket of warmth.<\/p>\n<p>Inside here was order and comfort.<\/p>\n<p>It was covered with life and the little plant had so many friends to talk to and all that resided there was content and filled with so much love and satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>However, the sun slowly began to hide behind fog.<\/p>\n<p>Clouds towered over, thunder ringing all around.<\/p>\n<p>Then, the storm came.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the inhabitants couldn&#8217;t stand it and immediately left, leaving behind chaos and disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Happiness no longer exists here.<\/p>\n<p>It looks around and sees everything in disarray and sadly smiles at all it has left in its home.<\/p>\n<p>The rain continues to get worse and the soil has finally begun to drag the plant down with it.<\/p>\n<p>They both start to take their final breaths when the rain suddenly ceases.<\/p>\n<p>A warmth washes over them,<\/p>\n<p>Drying up the wetness.<\/p>\n<p>Slowly, the duo begin to strengthen as the sunlight starts to peek out from behind the clouds.<\/p>\n<p>It grins wide as if to say, &#8220;did you miss me?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Days pass, and the plant stays doubtful that the sun will stay.<\/p>\n<p>It avoids its spot near the window in fear that the sun will run away again.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, many of it&#8217;s friends start to trickle back into the home, helping restore the inside.<\/p>\n<p>The plant continues to remain doubtful.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the work is complete and the home is completely restored,<\/p>\n<p>filled with weary laughter and nervous talk.<\/p>\n<p>The sun remains.<\/p>\n<p>And it begins to grin.<\/p>\n<p>It grins wider than before and laughs with such immense joy that it startles\u00a0 everyone.<\/p>\n<p>They all look at each other in confusion and look at each other, whispering amongst themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The plant curiously runs back to its perch to look out of the window.<\/p>\n<p>Standing there is the reflection of its home&#8217;s owner and for the first time,<\/p>\n<p>she&#8217;s genuinely smiling.<\/p>\n<p>She is happy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a plant in the window, peering out at the world, curiously trying to piece things together.
