Take a seat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He let her into his heart<br \/>\nthe way she let the moon takes her place<br \/>\n\u2014slowly, quietly, while he was sleeping.<br \/>\nCurled against her, her hair hot against his chest,<br \/>\nhis arms cocooned around her flames<br \/>\nand their fingers locked together in a searing hold.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes he melted too much to handle, and he crept away in the quiet.<br \/>\nShe dimmed without him.<\/p>\n<p>It took longer for her to do the same.<br \/>\nShe\u2019d said, \u201cLet me in.\u201d<br \/>\nHe&#8217;d asked, \u201cCan I?\u201d<br \/>\nFor forever, it seemed, she had her back to him,<br \/>\ntoo busy in her own starless world,<br \/>\nin her memories and the black hole in her chest.<br \/>\nShe finally turned around,<br \/>\nand her world twinkled once more.<\/p>\n<p>She was a rose-tinted mirror.<br \/>\nIn her presence, she mended him.<br \/>\nShe turned his bare roots into wings<br \/>\nand his marks into wax.<br \/>\nHe told her once.<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019ve got scars that can\u2019t be seen.\u201d<br \/>\nShe shook her head and kissed his cheek<br \/>\nand the wax melted.<\/p>\n<p>They had doubts.<\/p>\n<p>Once, when she felt calm enough not to burn,<br \/>\nhe let her into the greenhouse.<br \/>\nShe saw the words written on the short, prickly things.<br \/>\nLifting \u201cPuzzled\u201d into her hands, she asked.<br \/>\n\u201cMy own fears and demons,\u201d said Icarus.<br \/>\n\u201cI get acquainted with them.\u201d<br \/>\nHe showed her a few.<br \/>\n\u201cLonely\u201d\u2014introspective, but likes new things.<br \/>\n\u201cAnxious\u201d\u2014not talkative, but sincere when needed.<br \/>\n\u201cOverthinker\u201d\u2014an asshole.<br \/>\nHe did not show her the one tucked in the corner.<br \/>\n\u201cLove\u201d\u2014never watered.<\/p>\n<p>Once, as they walked through the darkest hour,<br \/>\nthe sun said, \u201cYou don\u2019t want me.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWhy not?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019ll hurt you.\u201d<br \/>\nShe told him how they\u2019d travel over flatlands to distant hills,<br \/>\nto chase the moon.<br \/>\nHe thought that was stupid.<br \/>\nHe loved it<br \/>\nand ignored her unspoken plea.<br \/>\n\u201cDon\u2019t get too close to me.
