Flash those doe eyes<br \/>\nthat will one day become marble, walk on hooves<br \/>\nthat are yours today (as a keychain somewhere<br \/>\nsalivates at the mouth, waiting to hang them),<br \/>\ntake naps on car hoods that howl laughter<br \/>\nat deer crossing signs. But start running, little doe,<br \/>\nyour dad\u2019s antlers can\u2019t save you forever. One day,<br \/>\nthey will hang in the house whose grass you\u2019ve grazed<br \/>\nyour entire life.<\/p>\n<p>A moth mistakes light for a savior, a lifesaver,<br \/>\nrushes in to catch flame, erratic behavior. Burns in the air,<br \/>\nsurrounded by water vapor that will not help.<br \/>\nBut do you remember those nights in the basement\u2014<br \/>\nno lights, only fire between you and I\u2014when we ate<br \/>\neach other\u2019s clothes alive? I clipped your wing<br \/>\nthat night. I don\u2019t think you ever forgave me.<br \/>\nYou wanted a brighter fire, longing for the savior<br \/>\nI could never be.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful little bunny, grab carrot root for loot<br \/>\nbut don\u2019t mistake it for mean man\u2019s boot. Rely on luck<br \/>\nfrom your foot, even though it will one day be chopped off<br \/>\nand sold as if it never belonged to you (how lucky<br \/>\ncan it be?) Flaunt fur and kiss strangers, have babies<br \/>\nbecause you\u2019re afraid of being alone.
