{"id":2405,"date":"2018-02-07T09:39:33","date_gmt":"2018-02-07T15:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/?p=2405"},"modified":"2018-02-07T09:39:33","modified_gmt":"2018-02-07T15:39:33","slug":"poems-from-the-notes-on-my-phone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/2018\/02\/07\/poems-from-the-notes-on-my-phone\/","title":{"rendered":"Poems from the Notes on my Phone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I almost exclusively feel compelled to write free verse poetry when I&#8217;m feeling really bad, and for whatever reason, I always seem to write this poetry in the notes app on my iPhone.\u00a0 I think that reason that I feel the need to write free verse poetry is that I just need to get thoughts out of my head and down somewhere.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t need to work with restrictions like narrative or rhyme.\u00a0 I think the reason that I write in the notes in my phone is that these poems don&#8217;t feel polished.\u00a0 Like the feelings that inspired them, the poems feel raw and harsh.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve mostly dismissed these as not worth publishing but have never had the heart to delete them.\u00a0 I&#8217;m glad that I haven&#8217;t because I&#8217;ve come to appreciate them for their emotion.\u00a0 These are a few that I&#8217;ve written recently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Birth to Death and in Between<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A symphony<br \/>\nUnto this world<br \/>\nFall into it<br \/>\nCaught in loving arms<\/p>\n<p>Held and sung to<br \/>\nAnd fed and loved<br \/>\nAnd loved<br \/>\nAnd grown<br \/>\nShaped and molded<br \/>\nPrepared<br \/>\nTo receive<br \/>\nThis world<\/p>\n<p>You<br \/>\nA fallen star<br \/>\nOne in a million<br \/>\nOr one of<br \/>\nSeven billion<br \/>\nThat have not<br \/>\nBurnt out<br \/>\nOr returned<br \/>\nAll the same<br \/>\nAll afraid<br \/>\nAll hiding<br \/>\nIn lives<br \/>\nLives they\u2019ve woven<br \/>\nOut of sunsets<br \/>\nAnd diamonds<br \/>\nAnd love<\/p>\n<p>Falling, falling<br \/>\nEver faster<br \/>\nInto the void<br \/>\nOne can\u2019t avoid<br \/>\nFalling falling<br \/>\nNever looking<br \/>\nAlways reaching<br \/>\nTo the sky<\/p>\n<p>Once created<br \/>\nAlive and happy<br \/>\nBut never<br \/>\nFulfilled<br \/>\nA desire<br \/>\nPure and honest<br \/>\nTo create<br \/>\nAs one once was<\/p>\n<p>Happy<br \/>\nIt\u2019s nothing<br \/>\nA momentary<br \/>\nFlash of light<br \/>\nAnd return<br \/>\nTo dark<br \/>\nSometimes longer<br \/>\nTo be dishonest<br \/>\nBut always<br \/>\nTo return<br \/>\nTo dark<\/p>\n<p>Your hands are clumsy<br \/>\nAlways breaking<br \/>\nThe sculptures<br \/>\nBefore they\u2019re complete<br \/>\nOver and over<br \/>\nAlways sculpting<br \/>\nBut never completing<\/p>\n<p>Always growing<br \/>\nGrowing careful<br \/>\nBut your eyes<br \/>\nGrow faster<br \/>\nThan your hands<br \/>\nFinally creating<br \/>\nWhat once would have<br \/>\nSatisfied your eyes<br \/>\nBut no longer will<\/p>\n<p>But then you find<br \/>\nYou sit at the door<br \/>\nFrom which once<br \/>\nYou were thrown out<br \/>\nYou are returning<br \/>\nYou are knocking<br \/>\nYou want to break the door down<br \/>\nBut are again turned away<br \/>\nNot now<br \/>\nYou are not yet ready<br \/>\nThough some day later<br \/>\nUntil you have truly returned<br \/>\nYou are incomplete<\/p>\n<p>**********************************************************<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Million Pieces<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a glass bottle<br \/>\nI\u2019m full<br \/>\nFull of words<br \/>\nWords I can\u2019t say<br \/>\nTears I can\u2019t cry<br \/>\nOn the verge<br \/>\nOf overflowing<br \/>\nOf breaking<br \/>\nShattering<br \/>\nInto a million pieces<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m an old book<br \/>\nTucked away<br \/>\nNever read<br \/>\nNever to be read<br \/>\nMy pages yellowed<br \/>\nAnd cracked<br \/>\nBreaking with every touch<br \/>\nCrackling<br \/>\nInto a million pieces<\/p>\n<p>I am a broken light<br \/>\nAfraid of turning on<br \/>\nBearing my light only when<br \/>\nIt cannot be seen by others<br \/>\nAfraid to blind them<br \/>\nMy light too bright<br \/>\nToo intense<br \/>\nMy bulb<br \/>\nBursting<br \/>\nInto a million pieces<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I almost exclusively feel compelled to write free verse poetry when I&#8217;m feeling really bad, and for whatever reason, I always seem to write this poetry in the notes app on my iPhone.\u00a0 I think that reason that I feel the need to write free verse poetry is that I just need to get thoughts &hellip;
