I recently came into a Dilemma we were tasked with writing a story with flashbacks I choose to do mine based on the riots that happened during 2021-24. initially I thought yeaa fun I am bringing awareness and a cool story. Now after recent events in my life, I’m thinking it’s to radicalized for certain audiences and I feel as if I have turn down the “wokeness” in my writing. I never had to “code switch” (change my personality to make other comfortable) during writing I never code switched for anyone really, I feel as if I people should accept my personality for what it is. I feel bad for those so used to doing it they become forever changed stuck watching from the shell place outside of their mortal body hopefully when their spirits are released, they do in turn find comfort.\u00a0<\/p>\n

here’s a paragraph from said short story:<\/p>\n

Those eyes. The\u00a0<\/span>cops<\/span>\u00a0had the same ones. I snapped back to reality, visibly shook.\u00a0<\/span>The girls scream started so get louder the cops screamed at her to stop\u00a0<\/span>resisting<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I stepped up to the\u00a0<\/span>awful scene<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0turned my back\u00a0<\/span>towards<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>cops<\/span>\u00a0and spoke to the crowd \u201ceveryone! Everyone! Let them do their job, stop yelling, and throwing stuff give th<\/span>em space!\u201d\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span> yelled. one\u00a0<\/span>protester<\/span>\u00a0screamed loudly \u201cwhy are you\u00a0<\/span>defending<\/span>\u00a0them?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span> turned I stood there then I approached him a screamed for everyone one to hear “I<\/span>\u00a0want to make sure your\u00a0<\/span>daughter<\/span>\u00a0got a daddy who comes bac<\/span>k home!\u201d\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0crowd grew silent. I turned towards the\u00a0<\/span>cops<\/span>, my breath heavy, my fist clenched my throat felt like eve had\u00a0<\/span>bitten<\/span>\u00a0into it<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>I thought to myself \u201cwho am\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0fighting for? I then looked at the girl and then the officer and gather my courage to speak\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Can<\/span>\u00a0y’all please just calm down, we\u00a0<\/span>don\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0want trouble here.\u00a0<\/span>That’s<\/span>\u00a0a little girl man.<\/span>\u201d I\u00a0<\/span>said,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>attempting<\/span>\u00a0to calm them down. \u201c<\/span>Don’t you have\u00a0<\/span>kids<\/span>?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>I let it slip from my mouth not knowing\u00a0<\/span>how\u2019d<\/span>\u00a0they react,\u00a0<\/span>the offi<\/span>cers looked at me convection in their eyes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>alright<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0need everyone to back up!\u00a0<\/span>I will not hesitate to arrest people!<\/span>\u00a0This girl is going to be freed if anyone vandalizes or assaults the police again tear gas will be used to control the crowd.\u201d one officer said taking the\u00a0<\/span>incitive<\/span>\u00a0the other officer looked at him with disgust.\u00a0<\/span>They\u00a0<\/span>released<\/span> t<\/span>he<\/span> girl from the handcuffs, and she fell into my arms\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0collapsed to the\u00a0<\/span>ground<\/span>\u00a0my head and underarms full of sweat my heart tired and my voice sore.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
