The poet&#8217;s name: Tupac Shakur.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18975\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Tupac-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Tupac-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Tupac.jpg 474w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Though before I start, there\u2019s a story behind this blog.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was in seventh grade and my teacher was making the class draw names from a hat so we can all do research on some less known figures in Black History.\u00a0 Everyone was getting upset because they didn\u2019t like that the people, they were researching were all the way back in the day.\u00a0 Personally, I was like, I wouldn\u2019t mind if I got someone I never heard of before, it would make it more fun researching them.\u00a0 So, when it finally gets to me, literally the last person, everyone jumps at me because I got someone no one would expect: Tupac Shakur.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was so loud in the classroom as everyone yelled things like, \u201cThat\u2019s not fair Mrs. Spencer!\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTiara doesn\u2019t even listen to Rap!\u201d or \u201cTupac isn\u2019t even part of Black History!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once my teacher heard those statements she stopped and turned to me, and she said, \u201cWhat do you think Tiara, is Tupac part of Black History?\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was stunned and didn\u2019t know what to say.\u00a0 Back then, I didn\u2019t really know much about Tupac, I just knew that he was a rapper, he was shot, he created the song \u201cAll Eyez on Me\u201d, and that he had beef with Biggie Smalls. \u00a0 I never considered that with a Rep like that he would be part of History.\u00a0 So, I finally responded to my teacher: \u201cI guess we\u2019ll find out today.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, for a little bit of context, this was an English class, and she was making us do Black Writers in history like Phillis Wheatley, Alice Walker, and Paul Laurence Dunbar for examples.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, I went to ask my teacher, \u201cAre you sure you want me to talk about Tupac\u2019s raps?\u00a0 Because I don\u2019t think some of them are student friendly.\u201d \u00a0 And she turned to me with a smile and was like, \u201cTiara, some Rap can be Poetry and once you start doing your research, you&#8217;re going to learn that Tupac was a Poet.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then she sent me on my way and my research began:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">??? ???? ???? ???? ???? ????????\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by: Tupac Shakur\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did you hear about the rose that grew<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from a crack in the concrete?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proving nature&#8217;s law is wrong it<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">learned to walk with out having feet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it learned to breathe fresh air.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long live the rose that grew from concrete<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when no one else ever cared.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was the first poem that popped up when I searched for it.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t really make such a big impact on me at first because I wasn\u2019t really a poetry person back then and it just was words to me at first glance if you know what I mean, but the assignment was to analyze the meaning of the poem and explain what you took from it.\u00a0 I would explain what I got from it, but I\u2019m just going to let y\u2019all tell me in the comments maybe.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On that note, I don\u2019t remember what I put for the meaning, but this website called Haener Block, explains<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cThe poem represents the ways that someone can become something great coming from a place that\u2019s not recognized as great.\u00a0 In this poem he uses a rose, something that\u2019s recognized as beautiful, even with its imperfections.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This sounds about like what I had, but a little bit more spiced up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ??????\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by: Tupac Shakur\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the event of my Demise<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when my heart can beat no more<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I Hope I Die For A Principle<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or A Belief that I had Lived 4<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will die Before My Time<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because I feel the shadow&#8217;s Depth<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so much I wanted 2 accomplish<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before I reached my Death<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have come 2 grips with the possibility<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and wiped the last tear from My eyes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I Loved All who were Positive<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the event of my Demise<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tupac was really getting deep with his poetry and this title is so sad but cool because it fits the way he used to speak.\u00a0 Also, this poem seemed like a conspiracy theory for many people because he was literally like he will die before his time and during my research I learned that in some songs he said he was going to die young, so I was like, \u201cDid he know? \u00a0 Was he predicting his death?\u201d\u00a0 Anyway, we\u2019re not going to get into that right now.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I picked this poem for the \u201cAttention Grabbing and Meaningful\u201d part of the project because it stood out to me a lot.\u00a0 Like previously, I don\u2019t really remember how I analyzed these, but the Allpoety.com quotes that Tupac said,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u00a0composed<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;In the Event of My Demise&#8217; on the very day that I was diagnosed with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">H.I.V<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0 I contracted H.I.V. from a medical accident while working as a Navy Corpsman at Lemoore Naval Hospital. On that day I felt like I needed to evaluate my life and write my will and testament.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I didn\u2019t have that at all, but his actual words make a better analysis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u029f\u026a\u0299\u1d07\u0280\u1d1b\u028f \u0274\u1d07\u1d07\u1d05\ua731 \u0262\u029f\u1d00\ua731\ua731\u1d07\ua731<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By Tupac Shakur\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">excuse me but lady liberty needs glasses<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and so does mrs justice by her side<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">both the broads r blind as bats<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stumbling thru the system<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">justice bumbed into mutulu and<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trippin on geronimo pratt<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">but stepped right over oliver<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and his crooked partner ronnie<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">justice stubbed her big toe on mandela<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and liberty was misquoted by the indians<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">slavery was a learning phase<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">forgotten with out a verdict<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">while justice is on a rampage<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4 endangered surviving black males<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">i mean really if anyone really valued life<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and cared about the masses<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">theyd take em both 2 pen optical<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and get 2 pair of glasses<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first time I read this poem I remember one of my classmates telling me that this poem could make some great bars.\u00a0 I also remember that at the time that I didn\u2019t know what bars were, so I just agreed. \u00a0 Looking at this now and reading it, I do agree that this would have made an interesting rap, especially with Tupac\u2019s style. \u00a0 I didn\u2019t have to analyze this one, it just needed to be included into the project but if I could take a guess now of what it\u2019s about, I would say: Tupac did explain how his parents were part of the Black Panthers and fought against injustice and he did gain a lot of his values from them.\u00a0 This poem probably could have been inspired by their example and his own experiences of how the world treated races and other ethnicities that weren\u2019t white poorly and unfairly during most of history. \u00a0 I see that when he gives prominent figures and examples from history in the poem.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, I see that the main point he\u2019s making is that America is supposed to represent freedom and liberty, but it seems that they aren\u2019t acting on what they represent, they turn a blind eye to how the world is really treating their citizens.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When looking it up on AllPoetry.com it states that Tupac\u2019s meaning for it was:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLady\u00a0Liberty would rather put a black man in prison for selling drugs to feed his family because the same system won&#8217;t give him a job, but she could overlook the white man who is beating the mess out of his wife.\u00a0 The glasses are metaphors for the system&#8217;s ability to see and omit what they want.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last but not least we have:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">???? ??? ???? ?????\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when your hero falls from grace<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all fairy tales r uncovered<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">myths exposed and pain magnified<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the greatest pain discovered<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u taught me 2 be strong<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">but im confused 2 c u so weak<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u said never 2 give up<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and it hurts 2 c u welcome defeat<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when ure hero falls so do the stars<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and so does the perception of tomorrow<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without my hero there is only<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">me alone 2 deal with my sorrow<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your heart ceases 2 work<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and your soul is not happy at all<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">what r u expected 2 do<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when ure only hero falls<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I didn\u2019t have to decipher this poem, but I did have to pick a poem that had deep and relatable meaning to me.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The day I presented this project, this was the last thing I had to explain and recite; the class got sad and quiet when I told them this made me think about my grandmother and mother.\u00a0 I hated the days when I had to see them struggle with either money or their health but still made sure that everyone was good while even smothered in sadness.\u00a0 We couldn\u2019t tell that the days when they made sure my siblings and I ate before them were the days they also couldn\u2019t feed themselves.\u00a0 They were our heroes, and your heroes usually don\u2019t want to reveal their weaknesses.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So yeah, this was a lot of my journey while digging into Tupac\u2019s contribution to Black Artist History.\u00a0 He used his music and poetry to advocate for the Black community and become a voice for them.\u00a0 His image was also a symbol of resistance and struggle against oppression. \u00a0 Again, his poems are beautiful, and they reveal new things to me about his beliefs and his style every time I read them and there\u2019s many more that I didn\u2019t cover, and you all should check them out.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 In honor of the beginning of Black History Month, I\u2019ve decided to use my blog as a moment to show some great works of an African American Poet.
