{"id":1230,"date":"2017-11-02T13:55:42","date_gmt":"2017-11-02T18:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/?p=1230"},"modified":"2017-11-02T13:55:42","modified_gmt":"2017-11-02T18:55:42","slug":"cogs-of-a-childs-mind-a-series-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/2017\/11\/02\/cogs-of-a-childs-mind-a-series-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Cogs of a Child&#8217;s Mind (a series)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is part two of my misinterpretations of a variety of concepts as a child.\u00a0\u00a0To me, these misunderstandings make the best of stories and show a peek at your perspective as a kid<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2.\u00a0 China is Part of the U.S.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Before I fully understood geography, I believed, deep down, that China was included in the U.S.\u00a0 In my 7-year old mind, the whole country had just broke off from wherever it was and floated swiftly to America, crashing violently into the side.\u00a0 This is how I reasoned all of the problems in America had arrived from poverty to international affairs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In my defense,\u00a0 my mother had told me that Wal-Mart was China&#8217;s creation.\u00a0 She also told me that the reason all of my favorite local stores and markets went out of business was because Wal-Mart had all of those things so no one needed to come and buy from those small stores.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 This made me angry.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I was very angry.\u00a0 I was so angry that I vowed to never purposely step foot in Wal-Mart again.\u00a0 Ever.\u00a0 Why couldn&#8217;t people even of poverty, realize that supporting your country would increase the wealth of the country and possibly them?\u00a0 (I never said I was an highly educated seven-year old)<\/p>\n<p>Soon, Mom had to get groceries and most of the markets and small stores had been shut down, so, we had to go to Wal-Mart.<\/p>\n<p>I still didn&#8217;t understand why.<\/p>\n<p>I mean Wal-Mart is just a dumb place in general.\u00a0 Like,\u00a0 what does &#8216;Wal-Mart&#8217; even mean?<\/p>\n<p>Still, I stepped out of the car and soon decided that not going into Wal-Mart was quite unrealistic considering the many times Mom had left me.\u00a0 \u00a0Thus, I declared to myself that, when I was grown, I&#8217;d never go to Wal-Mart for anything.<\/p>\n<p>Anywho, that was only a fragment of my thought process when my sister quizzed me on geography.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How many states does America include?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;50!\u00a0 Wait, no.\u00a0 51!\u00a0 52&#8230;?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Um&#8230;What?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;51.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Are you sure?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Duh,&#8221; I sang mockingly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Where do you get 51?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My brain,&#8221; I stated, curious as to why she asked.\u00a0 &#8220;Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, China&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My sister looked at me with a blank face that seemed to barely hold straight a smile before bursting into laughter so strong that she was knocked backwards onto the floor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What!?\u00a0 It is!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh my gosh!
