{"id":1151,"date":"2017-11-16T08:51:52","date_gmt":"2017-11-16T14:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/?p=1151"},"modified":"2017-11-16T08:51:52","modified_gmt":"2017-11-16T14:51:52","slug":"alone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/2017\/11\/16\/alone\/","title":{"rendered":"Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes I think about my future.\u00a0 I know that I will try to be a writer, but I also know that what I write is not what has been traditionally popular.\u00a0 I&#8217;m afraid that I&#8217;ll try to be a writer but will never be successful because of what I write about.\u00a0 My favorite band is probably the Beach Boys, and my favorite album of theirs is Pet Sounds.\u00a0 Pet Sounds is a near masterpiece, and I love every song on it.\u00a0 Critics have said from its release that the album was incredible.\u00a0 Despite being called nearly perfect, it sold far less than Brian Wilson had hoped.\u00a0 One reason for this is that the music was entirely different from anything that had come before it; it was even vastly different from the other music the Beach Boys had previously made.\u00a0 I feel like that might be what happens with me, but I won&#8217;t even be called great by few and retrospectively called a genius.\u00a0 I feel like I&#8217;ll just be buried.\u00a0 I know for a fact that I cannot change who I am as an artist.\u00a0 I know that I will never sacrifice my artistic integrity for money.\u00a0 My art is what is most important to me.\u00a0 If I had money, I&#8217;d use it to fund my art.\u00a0 I would not make art that does not represent myself to just to get money that I&#8217;d spend to continuously make things that I don&#8217;t care about.\u00a0 I know that this is not the kind of philosophy that someone that wants to be a successful writer in this time should have, but I cannot change that about myself because it is so much of who I am as a person.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;m lying to myself.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;m making art that I know won&#8217;t be popular on purpose.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;m building a wall.\u00a0 Maybe I just want to be able to say, &#8220;Oh, that was never supposed to be popular,&#8221; so that when my art never becomes popular, I can have something to blame it on, so I won&#8217;t have to take responsibility or say that I failed to make something good.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been depressed lately, and I don&#8217;t really know why.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve just gotten to a point where if I were somebody else and I met myself, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;d like me.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know how to change this person that I am or if I should or if I just don&#8217;t want to.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes I think about my future.\u00a0 I know that I will try to be a writer, but I also know that what I write is not what has been traditionally popular.\u00a0 I&#8217;m afraid that I&#8217;ll try to be a writer but will never be successful because of what I write about.\u00a0 My favorite band is &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/2017\/11\/16\/alone\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading<span class=\"screen-reader-text\"> &#8220;Alone&#8221;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":17,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1151"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/17"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1151"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1151\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1154,"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1151\/revisions\/1154"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1151"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1151"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.msabrookhaven.org\/literary\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1151"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
